Maintenance files and schedule
Maintenance files repair product and Installation System defects, add product and Installation System enhancements and update the BMC products that you installed through the Installation System. BMC delivers SMP/E maintenance, which is required for all products that the Installation System installs.
Maintenance file types
The following table describes the types of maintenance files that BMC provides:
Maintenance file type | Description |
---|---|
Recommended Service Level (RSL) | RSL files contain program temporary fixes (PTFs) and HOLDDATA for products. The PTFs have been certified by BMC against the IBM Recommended Service Update (RSU). You can obtain quarterly RSL maintenance at any time by using IBM SMP/E RECEIVE ORDER. Quarterly RSL images remain available for two years on Electronic Software Distribution (ESD) after the date on which they became available (RSL images older than two years can be requested on physical media). |
PTFs | You can obtain individual PTFs at any time by using IBM SMP/E RECEIVE ORDER. |
SMP/E service files (packaged with the corresponding products on the installation media) | SMP/E service files contain additional maintenance to be applied during installation to bring the product to the GA level or to a specific RSL level. Important The SMP/E service files are not interchangeable with the RSL files. Use the SMP/E service files only when performing a new installation of a product. Do not use the service files in place of the RSL files. |
Maintenance schedule
Recommended Service Level (RSL) maintenance is available on a quarterly basis. A technical bulletin alerts you when a new RSL is available. (You can sign up for proactive alerts on the
BMC Support Central
.)
RSL maintenance is labeled as RSLyymm:
- yy is the last two digits of the calendar year.
mm is the two digits that represent the month.
The following RSL releases are scheduled or available. Click an available RSL number to list the PTFs contained on the RSL. A brief description of each PTF is included.
Tip
When previewing the spreadsheets in a browser, formatting issues can occur. For example, the content might be cut off or only the first tab in a multi-tab spreadsheet is viewable. For best results, download the file and view it offline.
