Maintenance and schedule information
We provide SMP/E maintenance, which is required for all products that Installation System installs.
Maintenance types
The following table describes the types of available maintenance that we provide.
Important
You can maintain your BMC products by using IBM SMP/E RECEIVE ORDER. The SMP/E RECEIVE ORDER simplifies ordering and retrieving maintenance. For more information, see Using SMP/E RECEIVE ORDER.
Maintenance type | Description |
---|---|
Recommended Service Level (RSL) | RSL files contain program temporary fixes (PTFs) and HOLDDATA for products. We have certified PTFs against the IBM Recommended Service Update (RSU). You can obtain quarterly RSL maintenance at any time by using IBM SMP/E RECEIVE ORDER. |
PTFs | You can obtain individual PTFs at any time by using IBM SMP/E RECEIVE ORDER. |
SMP/E service files (packaged with the corresponding products on the installation media) | SMP/E service files contain additional maintenance to be applied during installation to bring the product to the GA level or to a specific RSL level. Important Use the SMP/E service files only when performing a new installation of a product. |
Maintenance schedule
Recommended Service Level (RSL) maintenance is available on a quarterly basis. We release a technical bulletin to alert you when a new RSL is available. You can sign up for proactive alerts at the
BMC Support Central
.
RSL maintenance is labeled as RSLyymm:
- yy is the last two digits of the calendar year.
mm is the two digits that represent the month.
The following RSL releases are scheduled or available. Click an available RSL number to list the PTFs contained in the RSL. A brief description of each PTF is included.

When you preview the spreadsheets in a browser, formatting issues might occur. For example, the content might be cut off or only the first tab in a multi-tab spreadsheet might be viewable. For best results, download the file and view it offline.

Hello, where is the link to the list of PTF's included in RSL2301 that just came out? and please direct me to the place (document) explaining how to obtain the RSL (any RSL)... thanks in advance.
Hi, Noam. It's good to hear from you! I have forwarded your questions to the writer responsible for the Installation System.
Hi, Noam.
To open a spreadsheet containing a list of the PTFs for this quarter, try clicking RSL2301 in the left column of the last table in this topic.
For information about obtaining and applying maintenance, see the following topics:
Hi Dov, Great hearing from you too :-)
I guess it is my mistake for assuming that RSL2301 will be under "2023 RSL maintenance" and not "2022 RSL maintenance"...
Hello. Are BMC Compuware products included in RSL releases? I clicked on the available RSLs on this page and did not see any containing BMC Compuware Products (i.e. ISPW, File-Aid)
I was able to use the RO process to download and receive the 'Recommended' package for these BMC Compuware products. But none of the received PTFs were tagged with a SOURCEID. From what I read SOURCEID is only assigned to PTFs that are released on RSL distribution. Can you help me sort this out? Thanks.
Hi, Nick. Thank you for your query. I have forwarded it to the writers who are responsible for this content.
Hi, Nick.
Regarding your first question, we can confirm that BMC Compuware products are not currently included in the quarterly RSL testing and distribution, but we plan to include them in the future. We will announce this by releasing a technical bulletin.
Regarding your second question, BMC Compuware products do not currently use SOURCEIDs in any of their PTFs, although we may change this in the future. PTFs for BMC Compuware products become available to customers when we release them. After additional testing and validation, the PTFs are then closed, which adds them to the product’s cumulative maintenance. We would assume that the Recommended package that you are using is from cumulative maintenance.
