Exporting the source data

Data Import can map the following file types:

  • AR Export (.arx )—Default AR System data file type. See Exporting-data-by-using-the-AR-Export-command-line-utility.
  • AR XML (.xml )—XML file conforming to the AR XML data specification. This file type contains several elements required for AR System use. See XML-formats.
  • CSV(.csv )—Comma-separated value file. In this file, carriage returns are treated as the end of a record.
  • ASCII (.asc )—Generic ASCII file.

You can create .arx, .xml, and .csv files with the artext utility, which is designed primarily for localization. For information about artext, see Localizing-message-components-of-a-form-view.

To use ASCII data obtained from a source outside of AR System

  1. Save the data with a unique separator string of up to 32 characters in length.
  2. Use \t for tab, \b for backspace, and two backslashes for carriage returns are treated as the end of the record.

You cannot import .asc data that uses special characters as column separators. Unique separator strings should not appear in any of the field names or the data. This prevents problems with incorrect numbers of fields when importing.

When attachments are exported in AR Export format from a browser, a .zip file is created that includes the .arx file and the attachments.

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
