Exercise 2 - Define Innovation Studio External Record
Once the AR Data source configuration is successful, you can create an External Record in order to pull data from ITSM. To create an External Record, perform the following steps:
- From within your application workspace go to the Records tab.
- Select External Record type from '+New' option.
- Then select Data Source Type as 'AR System' and Data Source Name as the Same data source which we created in Exercise 1.
- Then click 'Next'.
- Next, you will need to select the ITSM table from which you want to pull the data. In this use case you will be getting Incident data, so you will select 'HPD:Help Desk'.
- On the 3rd tab, 'Record ID Fields', select the mapping for mandatory Record fields and then click next.
- On the final tab, select the fields from the HPD:Help Desk record which are necessary for your use case. In starter kit example we have selected 30 fields from the HPD:Help Desk record.
- Then click on Save.
You will see record definition view, Enter the appropriate name for the external Record. In starter kit example we have created an external record with ITSM Incidents Data name. Once you save your external record, you will see the new external record listed under the Records tab.
Once the record is created, you can select that record and check the data from ITSM record by clicking 'Edit Data' button which is at top of the grid. This way you can confirm that data is being pulled from ITSM.
