Assigning application licenses to users

BMC Helix Platform enables an administrator to assign application licenses to users, so that the users can legally use the application.

An administrator can manage licensing by performing the following tasks:

• Assign BMC Helix Platform or application license to users.
• View application license usage by generating a report.
• Remove licenses assigned to users.

Before you begin

• To be able to assign BMC Helix Platform licenses to users, ensure that BMC SaaS Operations has assigned the BMC Helix Platform license to your tenancy. 
• To be able to assign application licenses to users, ensure that BMC SaaS Operations has assigned the application license to your tenancy. 

To assign BMC Helix Platform licenses to users

You can assign an BMC Helix Platform license to tenants so that they can legally use a custom application. Assigning this license is a one-time activity.

1. Log in to BMC Helix Innovation Studio and navigate to the Administration tab.
2. Select Configure My Server > Licenses Management > Helix Platform Licenses.
3. On the BMC Helix Platform License Users page, click Assign/Unassign Licenses.
4. Select one or more users to whom you want to assign BMC Helix Platform licenses.
5. Click Save.

To assign application licenses to users

To apply licenses to a tenant, the administrator can add the licenses by using BMC Helix Platform. Licenses are active as soon as they are added to the server.

1. Log in to BMC Helix Innovation Studio and navigate to the Administration tab.
2. Select Configure My Server > Licenses Management > Application Licenses.

3. Select the application for which you want to assign a named license.

4. Click Assign Licenses.

5. In the Assign/Unassign Licenses dialog box, select the users to whom you want to assign the application license.

6. Click Save.
7. (Optional) To view the list of users having licensed applications, click the application name link.
   

To generate application license usage reports

1. Log in to BMC Helix Innovation Studio and navigate to the Administration tab.
2. Select Configure My Server > Licenses Management > Application Licenses.

3. From the list of tenants, click the tenant name to access the list of applications and related licenses.

4. Select the application and click Generate Report.
5. In the Generate Report dialog box, specify the date range to include in the report.
6. Click Generate.

The report is created and downloaded as a CSV file to the default download location of your web browser. The following image displays an example report for the application license consumption time (In seconds) for the user User 1:

To remove BMC Helix Platform licenses from users

1. Log in to BMC Helix Innovation Studio and navigate to the Administration tab.
2. Select Configure My Server > Licenses Management > Application Licenses.
3. In the BMC Helix Platform License Users page, click Assign/Unassign Licenses.
4. Clear the check boxes beside the user names whose license you want to revoke. 
5. Click Save.

The licenses are revoked from the selected users.
