Configuring a data source

As an administrator or a developer, you can leverage data outside BMC Helix Platform. To leverage external data, you must first configure the data source by specifying the connection and authentication details. BMC Helix Platform supports two external data source types—Remedy Action Request System (AR System) and Web API data source. The AR System data source type supports the following authentication types:

  • Remedy Single Sign-On (Remedy SSO)—Remedy SSO should be the same for BMC Helix Platform and external AR system, and users should be synced in BMC Helix Platform from external AR system.
  • Remedy Application Service Password of external AR System—AR System users should be synced in BMC Helix Platform.

To configure a new data source

  1. Log in to BMC Helix Platform and navigate to the Administration tab.
  2. Select Connections > Data Sources.
  3. On the Data Source Connection page, click New.
The Add New Data Source Configuration dialog is displayed.
  4. On the General tab, complete the following fields:
    1. Name—Enter an appropriate name for the data source connection, for example, ARS01.
    2. Type—Select AR System or Web API, depending on your requirement.
The data is retrieved from the data source defined in this field.
  5. On the Connection Properties tab, complete the fields as described in the following table:

If you select RAS, enter the password of the Remedy Application Service User of the external AR System.
Use currently logged in user permissions

Select the check box if you want to use the logged in user's permissions to access the AR System server.
