Associating Person data with other types of Foundation data

Each employee, vendor, or customer that is stored as Person data can perform different roles, report to different people in an organization, and reside in different geographic locations. To create a data model for your application, it is important that you associate the people data with its corresponding organization, location, or geographic data.

Foundation library provides a list of associations to create a relationship between the available Foundation data.

Before you begin

To create associations for Person data

  1. Log in to BMC Helix Innovation Studio and navigate to the Administration tab.
  2. Click Foundation Data > Manage People.
  3. Select the Person data for which you want to create associations.

  4. To associate a person with a location, on the Edit Person page, click Basic > Locations and perform the following steps:

    1. From Primary Sites, click Associate, and select the primary sites that you want to associate with the Person.
    2. From Secondary Sites, click Associate, and select the secondary sites that you want to associate with the Person.

    3. From Home Address, click Associate, and select the address that you want to associate with the Person. or click Create New to create new address and then associate with the Person.

    4. Click Close.

  5. To associate person with business units, department, organizations, or support groups, on the Edit Person page, click Advanced and perform steps indicated in the following table:

    Person with Business Units or DepartmentsIf you want to create an association between person and business units or departments.
    1. Click Business Units.

    2. To add new business units, click Add Business Units, and select the business units that you want to associate with the person.
    3. To add new department, click Add Departments, and select the departments you want to associate with the person.

    4. Click Select
    5. Click Close.

    Person with EmployeesIf you want to create an association between persons, such that the associated person is the manager of the selected employees.
    1. Click Employees.

    2. To add new employees, click Add, select the employees you want to add, and click Select.
      You can select only one check box at a time.

    3. Select the employees you want to associate with the person.
    4. Click Close.

    Person with OrganizationIf you want to create an association between person and organization, such that the associated person does not mahas access to specific data of the organization.
    1. Click Associated Organizations

    2. From the Supported Organizations tab, select the organizations that the person can access.

    3. To add new organizations, click Add, and select the organization.

    4. Click Close.

    If you want to create an association between person and organization, such that the associated person is the manager of the selected organization.
    1. Click Associated Organizations

    2. From the Managed Organizations tab, select the organizations that the person can manage.

    3. To add new organizations, click Add, and select the organization.

    4. Click Close.

    Person to Support groupsIf you want to create a direct affiliation between person and organization, such that the associated person works for, or reports to the manager of the organization and performs task for that organization.
    1. Click Support

    2. From the Support Members tab, select the organizations that you want to associate with the person.

    3. To add new departments, click Add Departments, and select the organization.

    4. To add new support groups, click Add Support Groups, and select the organization.
    5. Click Close.

    Person to associated Support groupIf you want to create an indirect affiliation between person and organization, such that the associated person does not work for, or reports to the manager of the organization but performs task for support organization.
    1. Click Support

    2. From the Associated Support Members tab, select the support organizations with which the person is associated.

    3. To add new organizations, click Add, and select the organization.

    4. Click Close.


  6. Click Save.

The Person data model is now ready. You can proceed with creating associations for Organization, Categorization, Location, and Geography data.
