Associating Geography data with other types of Foundation data

You can leverage the Geography data and its association definitions to form a data model for your application. The Geography Country is the top-level parent record definition that stores data related to a country such a state, province, district, city, pin codes, or time zones. 

You can associate the Geography data with other types of geography data or other Foundation data. 

Before you begin

To associate Geography data

  1. Log in to BMC Helix Innovation Studio and navigate to the Administration tab. 
  2. Select Foundation Data > Manage Geography
  3. Associate the Geography data by performing the steps indicated in the following table: 
    AssociationSteps
    Country with State/ Province/ District
    1. Click Countries.

    2. Select the country that you want to associate with a state, province, or district.
    3. On the Edit Country page, scroll to the State, Provinces or Districts for this country section, and click New.
      1. On the New State, Province or District page, enter the name of the state, province, or district that you want to associate with the country.
      2. In Status, set the status for the newly added state, province, or district, such as Enabled or Obsolete.
    4. Click Save.
    State/Province/District with City
    1. Click Countries.

    2. Select the country in which you have created the state, province, or district.
    3. On the Edit Country page, scroll to the State, Provinces or Districts for this country section.
    4. Click the check box that corresponds to the state, province, or district that you want to associate with a city.

    5. Click New City.
      1. On the New City page, enter the name and description of the city.
      2. In Status, set the status for the newly added city, such as Enabled or Obsolete.
    6. Click Save.
    City with Postal Codes
    1. Click Cities.

    2. Select the city that you want to associate with a postal code.
    3. On the Edit City page, scroll to the Zip/ Postal Codes for this city section.
    4. Click New.

      1. On the New Zip/ Postal Code page, enter the postal code that you want to associate with the city.
      2. In Status, set the status for the newly added postal code, such as Enabled or Obsolete.
    5. Click Save.
    City to Time Zone
    1. Click Cities.

    2. Select the country that you want to associate with a time zone.
    3. On the Edit City page, in the Time Zone section, click Associate.
    4. From the list, click the check box that corresponds to the time zone you want to associate with the city, and click Select.
      On the Edit City page, in the Time Zone section, under Pending Asociations, you can see the list of time zones.
    5. Click Save.
      The times zones under Pending Associations are associated with the city.

The Geography data model is now ready.
