 Enhancements

The following items are new or changed in version 12.1.01.

  • Customer Sign Up—Allow customers to self-register to create their own user accounts using Footprints Authentication. This can reduce a lot of administration overhead of creating and maintaining the user accounts. For more information, see Configuring Customer Sign-Up.
See the related Idea on BMC Communities.
  • Assign Portals to User Roles—You can grant users segregated access to the portals depending upon their System Role. In short, based on the System Role level, you can decide which portal should be available for which user. This functionality is perfect for MSPs and organizations that need to create segregated and personalized experiences for their end users. For more information, see Configuring portals.
See the related Idea on BMC Communities.
  • Form Performance and Organization Improvements—You can remove linking clutter from forms and offer a better performance experience to your Agents and Customers by displaying multiple types of records in one table. For example, you can provide a single exhaustive list consisting of an incident linked to related problems, changes, service requests, and subtasks.

For more information, see the support article
  • Java 8 support—With the Java 8 support added to the application server, you can now use the latest version of Java to run FootPrints. Support for Java 7 ends with the release of service pack 12.1.01. You need to install Java 8 and then update your Tomcat settings to point to the Java 8 virtual machine before an upgrade.

For more information, see support article.
  • Configure both From and CC email address fields—You can configure which field the address of the sender of an email that creates a Ticket will be entered into. Additionally, you can also designate which field the email addresses of everyone in the “To” and “CC” part of the email will be entered into. For more information, see Configuring incoming email for workspaces.
See the related Idea 1 and Idea 2 on BMC Communities.
  • More Flexible Number Search—You can now use numeric as well as alphanumeric strings to search in addition to the already existing record number search feature. For more information, see Searching in FootPrints.
See the related Idea on BMC Communities.
  • Connect to Office 365 for email—Incoming email has been tested using an Office 365 mail server.

For more information, see the support article.
  • Import of Category field types—With this release, you can categorize your Knowledge Base (KB) records one by one as you import them. So, your KB records are ready to be used as soon as the import process is finished.
For more information, see Importing solutions.
  • View the details of linked records in View mode—Now, you have the option of double clicking a linked record to view its information in a view mode. Earlier, it was possible to view the information of a record only in the Edit mode. For more information, see Linking records to other records.
See the related Idea on BMC Communities.
  • The Business Rules list defaults to grid mode—Now, by default, a Business Rules list is displayed in a grid mode rather than in an expanded mode. This gives you a better visibility to more rule information up front.

See the related Idea on BMC Communities.
  • Inherit fields for templates when a record is created via a Business Rule—Records that get created as a result of a business rule using a template will inherit field values from the parent record if specified in the template. For more information, see Configuring Master Quick Templates and Creating and managing Quick Templates.
See the related Idea on BMC Communities.
  • Grid personalization will persist—If you make any changes in a grid showing linked records, such as changing the column size, changing the column order, adding or removing a column, and so on; the next time a record of the same type is viewed, the changes you made remain.
  • Type ahead for dropdown fields—A list of values appears after you type the first value in the list field on a form. As you continue typing, the list is filtered to include only the members that begin with those values.
See the related Idea on BMC Communities.

  • Get record ID by Ticket ID web service—A number of web services require the internal record ID to function. If you know the Ticket ID, you will be able to get the corresponding record ID using the web services.
