Integrating a CMDB with BMC Client Management

You can see a great deal of information about your configuration items (CIs) once you import them into FootPrints.

Importing all available data can result in so much extraneous information that your database becomes almost impossible to use efficiently, so best practice is to import only the needed data. Also, it is better to add information in batches than to import all possible information at once and have to clean up your database afterwards.

Prerequisites

To use BMC Client Management (BCM) with your CMDBs, you must:

To integrate a CMDB with BCM

  1. Click the Administration tab.
  2. In the System Management section, click Import.
    The Task Scheduler page appears.
  3. Click New Task > Import Task > Configuration Items.
    The Source Type page appears.
  4. In the Source Type field, select BMC Client Management.
  5. Configure the import settings, using the information provided in Importing CIs from BMC Client Management.

Next steps

Configuring the import task is the last step in configuring BCM integration. To see the progress and results of the import task, click the Task Scheduler tab. To import the CI relationships, follow the instructions in Importing CI relationships from BMC Client Management.
