Performing actions on assets

When assets are linked to tickets from BMC Client Management (BCM), you can perform numerous actions on those assets. The actions vary by asset type and the settings defined in BCM. Options include:

  • View details, file system, and Windows registry, events, services and processes
  • Execute Remote Control or File Transfer
  • Run an audit
  • Ping, reboot, shut down, or wake up a device
  • Perform Advanced Actions in BCM, including custom and out-of-the-box rules defined in BCM

For more information about Advanced Actions, review the BCM documentation.

The following topics are provided:

To perform an action on an asset

  1. Open the ticket to which the asset is linked.
  2. In the asset section, select the asset.
  3. Click Actions  and select the action that you want to run.
The action is performed on the asset. Depending on the selected action, the requested information appears in a new tab or a Success/Error message appears at the bottom right corner of the portal. After the action is performed, the ticket is updated to record the results.

To run an Advanced Action on an asset

Two types of Advanced Actions can be run: those that are executed immediately on the asset and those that executed due to actions defined in a workflow process or business rule. The following steps apply in either case.

  1. Open the ticket to which the asset is linked.
  2. In the Asset section, select the asset.
  3. Click Actions > Advanced Actions.
The Advanced Actions dialog box appears.
  4. Select the action.
You may need to expand sections of the list to find a specific action.
  5. Click Apply Selected Action.
The action is performed on the asset and the ticket is updated to record the results.
