Energizer architecture


Energizer uses a multi-tiered architecture that features a console and the User Interface Middleware (UIM) server. These tiers work together, and can vary, based on your site’s installation. 

The following figure shows the Energizer architecture:

The console and UIM server work together to provide a graphical user interface (GUI) for BMC products such as Energizer. The UIM server is a TCP/IP application that controls communication between consoles and the mainframe.

Note

If you have installed and fully customized Energizer and the eLink address space becomes unavailable—for example, it is on a different system and that system was IPLed—transactions are still processed. The DataStore Router, WorkLoad Governor, security, and exits continue to function as they did before the eLink became unavailable. However, you cannot dynamically reload exits or view statistics until you restart the eLink address space. When the eLink is started, you do not need to recycle IMS Connect.

The way in which these tiers work together can vary, based on your site’s installation. The UIM server is an SMP/E installable component and is installed on the mainframe by using the Installation System. After the UIM server is installed, configured, and running, the console is downloaded and installed from the UIM to the consoles. The following figure shows a sample environment:

Note

Depending on the console-enabled products that you have installed on the mainframe, the UIM server can be installed on one system in a sysplex or on every system in a sysplex.
