MAC Pool - MAC Ranges

The MAC Ranges panel enables you to add or edit ranges of MAC addresses.

  • To define a new range, click Add a new MAC Range AddButton.bmp. Then, on the Add a MAC Range panel, define the range by specifying the last three pairs of numbers for a Start MAC Address and an End MAC Address, and click OK.
The system provides the first three pairs of numbers of the MAC addresses and you cannot change them. These numbers are the vendor code prefix, predefined as 00-25-B5.
  • To change an existing range, select the range in the MAC Ranges list and click Edit UpdateIcon.bmp. Edit the range and click OK.

Note

MAC address ranges that were defined in version 8.0 might not contain the correct vendor code prefix in the Start MAC Address and End MAC Address fields. In that case, the system migrates the pools and the ranges will continue to work for UCS Provision Job creation. If you attempt to edit a range that includes vendor codes other than 00-25-B5, the edit panel displays the predefined vendor code and empty text boxes, enabling you to create a range that complies with rules implemented in version 8.1 and later.

If you run out of MAC addresses in a MAC pool, you can deallocate one or more MAC addresses, thus making them available for provisioning. For information, see Managing-UCS-systems.
