Overview of Smart Agents
The managed servers require RSCD agents to perform the various administrative and management activities. The agents perform these activities as directed by the Application Server.
System administrators perform the following tasks to manage the newly added target servers using TrueSight Server Automation:
- Deploy the RSCD agent on the new targets.
- Enroll the new targets in the Application Server.
- Ensure that the Application Server is connected to the RSCD agents.
Administrators face the following challenges while performing these tasks:
- Manual overhead of enrolling new targets
- Difficulty in keeping track of the newly-provisioned targets
- Overhead of tracking the agent status (running or down)
A Smart Agent helps to resolve these challenges.
What is Smart Agent?
Smart Agent is an add-on feature of an RSCD agent that is installed on the same host as that of the RSCD agent. It acts as a client and generates enrollment and RSCD agent heartbeat requests. The Smart Agent communicates with a Smart Hub, which is a component that acts as a medium between the Smart Agent and Application Server. The Smart Hub stores these work requests from the Smart Agents. The Application Server regularly retrieves these requests from the Smart Hub and processes them.
The Smart Agent generates requests to do the following:
- Enroll the new targets automatically. For more information, see Auto-enrollment process.
- Inform the RSCD agent state to the Application Server at regular intervals. For more information, see Auto update of the agent status.
The Smart Agent provides these benefits:
- Save time and efforts spent in enrolling new targets manually.
- Provide up-to-date information about the RSCD agent status.
Comments
Smart Hub, which is a new component that acts as a medium between the Smart Agent and Application Server. What kind of component is it? and where it's located? is it on the same RSCD agent target server or within Application Server? Thanks
