You create a dashboard by selecting dashlet templates from the dashlet library and configuring them for your specific requirements. Each configured dashlet provides access to a specific type of data and presents it in a graphical format. As a user, you can create as many personal dashboards as necessary on the TrueSight console. After you create them, you can also share dashboards with other users.

You can create dashboards with one row, or as many rows as necessary. When creating and modifying dashboards, you can also change the order of the dashlets and rows in the dashboard. Depending on the type of data it provides, you might need to configure a dashlet when you add it to a dashboard.

This topic contains the following information about creating and modifying dashboards:

    All users can create dashboards.

The following video (4:24) illustrates how to create and edit dashboards with an example.

    Note

The following video displays screens from an earlier version, however, the information provided in the video is still relevant to the current version of the product.

    Tip

Before creating a dashboard, view the list of shared dashboards to see if you can view or copy an existing dashboard.

Editing controls for dashlets and rows

The following table lists the controls that you can use when adding and modifying dashboards. The dashlet controls become available only when a column contains a dashlet.

     ControlDescription

    Global Filter

Enables you to select a value from the Applications list.

    Rows

Enables you to perform the following actions:

    • Change the number of columns in the current row.
    • Add a row above the current row.
    • Add a row below the current row.
    • Delete the current row.
Moves the row up by one row.
Moves the row down by one row.

Opens the Add Dashlet page (dashlet library)
Enables you to drag the selected dashlet to any other cell in the dashboard
Enables you to configure the dashlet to retrieve data
Removes the dashlet from the cell, without confirmation
    Dashboard guidelines

Dashboards can contain as many rows as necessary.

Each row can contain 1–4 columns.

Each column in a row (cell) can contain multiple dashlets.

Reducing the number of cells in a row causes any orphan dashlets to merge into the remaining cells.

    To create a dashboard

The following procedure describes how to create a simple dashboard with two rows. Use the editing controls to modify the dashboard structure.

    1. If the Dashboards page is not visible in the TrueSight console, select Dashboards from the navigation pane.
    2. In the Dashboards page either click Add Dashboard or from the Dashboard action menu , select Add Dashboard.
    3.  Type a name in the Title text box.
    4. Select a Time Period from the list.
By default, the Time Period value is set to 2 hours.

      Note

The selected time period is available only until you log out. When you log in again, the dashboard displays the dashlets with default settings.

    5. (Optional) Select the Application check box  and select an option from the list.

      Note

Selecting an Application from the Global Filter ignores all other filters, whether Applications, Groups, Devices, or Device Types, pre-configured at the individual dashlet level configuration. However, this Application filter does not take effect on some of the dashlets. Refer to the individual dashlet topics for more information.

      Note

The global filters, Time Period and Applications, are available when you upgrade from TrueSight Presentation Server 10.0. to 10.1 or above. The default Time Period of 2 hours is applied upon upgrading. However, only the Time Period is applied by default and the Application must be explicitly selected by the dashlet user if needed.

    6.  If necessary for this dashboard, modify the number of columns and column widths for the first row:
      1. From the Row 1 action menu , click Edit Row.
      2. In the Edit Row window, select an option that represents the number of columns and the relative width of each column, and click Done.
    7. Select a dashlet template for the first column of the row:
      1. Click Add Dashlet.
      2. On the Add Dashlet page, select a dashlet template, and then click Close
      3. To configure the dashlet to retrieve data, select Configure Dashlet , and provide the dashlet properties in the panel of input fields and options that opens below the dashboard, and click Apply

The data in the selected dashlet conforms to the width of its column, but retains the aspect ratio of the dashlet.
    8. (Optional)To add and configure dashlets for the additional columns in the row, repeat step 7.
    9. Customize the second row of the dashboard by repeating steps 6–7.
    10. Use the 749294349 to add, move, and customize other rows in the table.
    11. Click Save.

      1. From the Row 1 action menu , click Edit Row.
      2. In the Edit Row window, select an option that represents the number of columns and the relative width of each column, and click Done.
