Viewing the details of a service

For detailed analysis and remediation, the Service Monitoring page provides you with comprehensive information about each service.

Before you begin

To view the Service Monitoring page and to take action, make sure your TrueSight Infrastructure Management server is registered with TrueSight Presentation Server.

To view service details

  1. In the TrueSight console, select Monitoring > Services.
  2. Click a service, to display Service Monitoring page.

Notes

  • Service Monitoring page is applicable only to the services synchronized from the BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server 10.5 version.
  • The system cross launches to the Infrastructure Management operator console, when you click the services synchronized from the previous versions of BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server 10.5. For example, TSIM 10.0, TSIM 10.1 etc.

 

The following figure depicts a snapshot of the Service Monitoring page.

The Service Monitoring page contains the following information:

Displays the name of the service.

3Displays the type of the service. Types of services are as follows: Technical service, Business service, and Unknown service.
4Displays the priority of the service. The priorities defined for a service are as follows: Highest, High, Medium, Low, Lowest
5Displays the status of the service. The statuses defined for a service are as follows: Unavailable, Impacted, Minor Impact, Warning, Information, OK, Unknown, and Blackout
6Collapse service details icon to hide the service details.
7Launches context sensitive help.
8Displays the service model and its associated CIs.
9Displays the events associated with the service.
10Displays the devices associated with the service.
11Displays the applications associated with the service
12Displays the Configuration Items (CIs) which are directly impacting the service.


User goals and features

The Service Monitoring page provides you with the capabilities for addressing the following business goals:

Access the Infrastructure Management operator console to edit service model data

From the action menu, select Launch Infrastructure Management operator console to cross-launch to TrueSight Infrastructure Management operator console.

For information about how to create a service model, see Editing Service Model data in the administrator console.

Note

The Cross Launch to TSIM option is available only to the users having Service-Administrator level access.

Customize the service details view to suit your preferences

From the action menu , select Save as Preference.

Every time you log on to the TrueSight console and navigate to the Service Monitoring page, the settings that you last used are displayed. This feature applies to the Model, Events, and Devices tabs.

Hide the service details to gain more display area for the service model

Use the Collapse Summary icon  to collapse the service details area.

Toggle between displaying and hiding the service details area by using this option.

To view the service model associated with the service

Click the Model tab  to view the service model associated with the service. The service model displays all the CIs associated with the service. You can pinpoint the exact impact area in a service model and drill down to each CI and find its status. For information about service models, see Viewing a service model from the TrueSight console.

To view the events associated with the serviceClick the Events tab  to examine all the events associated with the service as a snapshot of the Events view. For more information about events, see Monitoring and managing events from the TrueSight console.
To view the devices associated with the service

Click the Devices tab  to examine all the devices associated with the service as a snapshot of the Devices view. For more information about devices, see Monitoring devices from the TrueSight console.

The Devices tab applies only to computer system CIs and not to the other CIs.


To view the applications associated with the serviceClick the Applications tab to examine all the applications associated with the service as a snapshot of the Applications view. For more information about applications, see Monitoring applications.
To view the CIs directly impacting the serviceClick the Impacted Nodes tab to examine all the CIs which are directly impacting the service. The tab displays all the impacted CIs in a tile view. When you click an individual CI, it displays the details associated with that CI. For more information, see Viewing a service model from the TrueSight console.
Launch context sensitive helpClick the help icon  to launch the context-sensitive help. By default, the online version of the documentation is displayed. You can also use an offline version of the documentation. For more information, see Setting user preferences Open link
