Consult the topics in this section to plan the physical environment for BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management. The deployment use cases provide an overview of the physical architecture of the Infrastructure Management components and how they are connected and communicate with each other and other products. For an introduction to the logical architecture, see BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management architecture and components.

Best practice recommendations are provided throughout this section. For a list of all topics containing best practice recommendations, see Best practices for Infrastructure Management.

Deployment use caseSummaryReference
Single Infrastructure Management ServerA single BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server manages the entire environment for data collection, event management, root cause analysis, and all other Infrastructure Management functionality. A single-server deployment can manage small to medium environments.Infrastructure Management single-server deployment architecture
Multiple Infrastructure Management Servers

Multiple Infrastructure Management Servers are required when a single BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server cannot scale to the requirements of data collection, event management, or geographically dispersed data centers, or to establish development, test, and production environments for Infrastructure Management. Each server instance separately manages a portion of the environment for data collection, event management, root cause analysis, and all related operator console management functions. Each Infrastructure Management Server is configured to propagate relevant events to the BMC TrueSight Presentation Server.

Integration Service deployment

The Integration Service manages events from event sources such as BMC PATROL Agents, event adapters, and SNMP traps, and forwards performance data to the Infrastructure Management Server. Deploy the Integration Service hosts based on your deployment scenario and to achieve a scalable environment.

Staging Integration Service deploymentThe staging Integration Service provides a single point in the environment where all newly deployed BMC PATROL Agents can register into the solution stack. The staging process can leverage the Integration Service on the BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server.Staging Integration Service host deployment and policy management for development, test, and production best practices
High-availability deploymentHigh availability (HA) for the Infrastructure Management Server is supported through operating system clustering. The two servers in the cluster must be configured with shared storage between the two nodes.Infrastructure Management high availability deployment and best practices
Disaster recovery deployment with a SAP SQL Anywhere databaseThe disaster recovery system consists of two Infrastructure Management Servers: a primary server and a recovery server. During a disaster, the DNS alias name resolves to the recovery Infrastructure Management Server so that data and service availability are continued. The architecture of the disaster recovery system varies according to the database you use.Disaster recovery deployment architecture (Sybase)
Disaster recovery deployment with an Oracle databaseThe disaster recovery system consists of two Infrastructure Management Servers: a primary server and a recovery server. They are connected to separate database servers that run Oracle Database. During a disaster, the DNS alias name resolves to the recovery Infrastructure Management Server so that data and service availability are continued.Disaster recovery deployment architecture (Oracle)
Infrastructure Management integrated with BMC Atrium CMDB

Integrating Infrastructure Management with the BMC Atrium CMDB has the following benefits:

  • Provides more effective probable cause analysis
  • Keeps the service model components of Infrastructure Management synchronized with the service model components stored in the BMC Atrium CMDB
  • Faster deployment of Infrastructure Management

Infrastructure Management integrated with BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management

The BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Central Server can fetch cloud topology from BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management. The Central Server pushes cloud constructs to the appropriate Infrastructure Management Servers. This allows you to monitor cloud constructs provisioned by BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management.
