The BMC PATROL Agent 9.5.00.03 patch corrects various issues reported in earlier versions of BMC PATROL Agent. This patch also includes corrections for all of the issues that were addressed in patch version 9.5.00.01 and 9.5.00.02. For more information about issues corrected in this patch, see Known and corrected issues.

This topic provides information on the updates and instructions to download and install the patch.

Updates in the patch

This section describes the updates provided in BMC PATROL Agent 9.5.00.03.

Support for Counter64  data type of v2 SNMP variable

BMC PATROL Agent now supports the Counter64 type v2 SNMP variable. The snmp_trap_recieve() PSL function is now able to receive v1 SNMP traps which may contain the Counter64 data type v2 SNMP variable.

New macro definition to support previous macro resolution

BMC PATROL Agent has been updated to include the new macro definition to support the previous macro resolution for PATROL Agent direct event integration. This is applicable for custom origin events generated through event_trigger2 PSL function.

The following macros have been added:

  • APPCLASS_EX: This will resolve to the application class from the event origin.
  • APPINSTANCE_EX: This will resolve to the application instance from the event origin.
  • PARAMETER_NAME_EX: This will resolve to the parameter from the event origin.
  • PARAMETER_VALUE_EX: This will resolve to the value of the parameter derived from the event origin.

To enable this feature, you will have to manually modify the following macros:

  • APPCLASS has to be changed to APPCLASS_EX
  • APPINSTANCE has to be changed to APPINSTANCE_EX
  • PARAMETER_NAME has to be changed to PARAMETER_NAME_EX
  • PARAMETER_VALUE has to be changed to PARAMETER_VALUE_EX

Downloading the patch and installation utility

This section provides the information that you need to download and install the patch from the BMC Electronic Product Distribution (EPD) website.

To download the patch and installation utility from the EPD website

  1. Create a directory in which to place the downloaded files.

    Note

On Windows computers, ensure that the directory is only one level into the directory structure. The EPD package creates a directory in the temporary directory when you extract the files, and the directory that contains the installation image should not be in a directory deeper than two levels into the directory structure.

  2. Go to http://www.bmc.com/available/epd.html.
  3. At the logon prompt, enter your user ID and password, and click Submit.
  4. On the Export Compliance and Access Terms page, provide the required information, agree to the terms of the agreements, and click Continue.
  5. If you are accessing this site for the first time, create an EPD profile to specify the languages and platforms that you want to see, per the EPD site help; otherwise, skip to step 6.
  6. Verify that the correct profile is displayed for your download purpose.
  7. You can download the installation utility and the product patch using either of the following methods:
Using Component View
  1. In the Filter Products: field, type BMC PATROL Installation Utility.
  2. Click Go.
  3. In the right pane, click BMC PATROL Installation Utility.

    Note

BMC recommends you to use BMC PATROL Installation Utility 9.6.00.

  4. In the Version: list, select 9.6.00, and click Go.
