The BMC PATROL for Microsoft Cluster Server patch includes updates provided in 1.9.20.01 version of BMC PATROL for Microsoft Cluster Server. This topic also includes instructions for downloading and installing the patch.

Updates in the 1.9.20.01 patch

The BMC PATROL for Microsoft Cluster Server 1.9.20.01 patch includes the following updates:

Improved data security by using Advanced Encryption Standard (AES)

BMC PATROL for Microsoft Cluster Server supports AES encryption capability of the BMC PATROL Agent version 10.0.00. For information about Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) implementation in PATROL Agent, see PATROL Agent documentation.

Downloading the installation utility and patch

This section provides the information that you need to download and install the patch from the BMC Electronic Product Distribution (EPD) website.

To download the installation utility and patch from the EPD website

Create a directory in which to place the downloaded files.
Note

On Windows computers, ensure that the directory is only one level into the directory structure. The EPD package creates a directory in the temporary directory when you extract the files, and the directory that contains the installation image should not be in a directory deeper than two levels into the directory structure.
Go to http://www.bmc.com/available/epd.html.
At the logon prompt, enter your user ID and password, and click Submit.
On the Export Compliance and Access Terms page, provide the required information, agree to the terms of the agreements, and click Continue.
If you are accessing this site for the first time, create an EPD profile to specify the languages and platforms that you want to see, per the EPD site help; otherwise, skip to step 6.
Verify that the correct profile is displayed for your download purpose.
You can download the installation utility and the product patch using either of the following methods:
- Using Component View
- Using Licensed Products View

Using Component View

In the Filter Products: field, type BMC PATROL Installation Utility.
Click Go.
In the right pane, click BMC PATROL Installation Utility.
In the Version: list, select 10.5.00, and click Go.
In the Products tab, based on the operating system, select the check box next to the files.

To download the selected files, click Download (FTP) or Download Manager:
- Download (FTP) places the selected items in an FTP directory, and the credentials and FTP instructions are sent to you in an email message.

  This method requires a one-time installation of the Akamai NetSession client program on the target computer and is usually the faster and more reliable way to transfer files. A checksum operation is used to verify file integrity automatically.

Expand BMC TrueSight Operations Management Suite 10.5.00 to show the available components.
Expand BMC PATROL Installation Utility 10.5.00 to show the available files.
Select the check box next to the files, based on the appropriate platforms.

Installing the patch

Note

The BMC PATROL for Microsoft Cluster Server 1.9.20.01 patch contains all of the files that are required for a complete product release. You can install the product as a fresh installation.

Before you begin

You must install the patch on the following computers:

Hosts that are running the PATROL Agent
Hosts that are running the PATROL Console

Before you install the patch, complete the following steps:

Stop the PATROL Agent.
Back up the PATROL_CACHE directory.
Delete all BMC PATROL for Microsoft Cluster Server files from the PATROL_CACHE directory.
Back up the PATROL_HOME/lib/knowledge and PATROL_HOME/lib/psl directories.

To install the BMC PATROL for Microsoft Cluster Server 1.9.20.01 patch

Extract the installation utility for for Windows:
- Double-click ins_WINDOWS_10500.zip.
  The contents of the files are extracted into the bmc_products subdirectory.
Extract the patch files for Windows:
- Double-click mcs_ALL_192001.zip.
  The contents of the files are extracted into the bmc_products subdirectory.
From the bmc_products directory, run the installation utility as appropriate for your operating system:
- For Windows, double-click setup.exe.
Follow the on-screen instructions until the Select Products and Components to Install page is displayed.
On the Select Products and Components to Install page, select PATROL Knowledge Module for Microsoft Cluster Server.
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
After you complete the installation steps, you can delete the temporary directory and its contents.
