Sizing diagrams
The following diagrams provide a starting point for planning purposes and are based on both the Sizing baselines and the Recommendations for benchmarking the performance of BMC Remedy ITSM products.
This topic covers the following deployment types:
The software versions shown in these diagrams are based on the BSM Interoperability and BSM Reference Stack.
Large deployment
The following diagram illustrates a generic, large-scale deployment suitable for up to 5,000 concurrent users.

Thank you so much for you comment!
On the diagram, there is only one VM for BMC dashboards for BSM Server (with DIL), which means both web-tier and app-tier are deployed in one server. Thus, this server can be categorized in either web-tier or app-tier. And ideally, it should be in a web/app combined tier.
The current diagram is OK. Although the BMC Dashboards server is in app-tier, it is still accessible from client's network as long as it does not reside in a restricted zone. The point is that servers in restricted zone are not accessible by the clients, while web-tier or app-tier are just logical concept so a server categorized to app-tier can reside in a client-accessible zone if it needs to be available to clients.
Would it possible to update these diagrams so that the BMC Analytics for BSM components are all shown on a single server, per the documentation on the Analytics pages? These diagrams show it as a two server configuration which we've found out is not supported nor possible.
Hello Luc,
I'll pass your request along to the people responsible for the diagrams.
Thanks.
Hi Luc,
Can you point us to the information you received that suggests the two server configuration is not supported? Is it in the BMC Analytics documentation?
Thanks for your help with our investigation.
Please see the first bullet point at this page https://docs.bmc.com/docs/display/public/BABSM8100/Deployment+recommendations
Also, I might be able to find the support incident number where we were told it is not possible.
Thanks Luc. I shared this link with the team and have asked them to investigate.
Hi Luc,
Here is the response from our subject matter expert. It seems that the diagram is correct, since its purpose is to illustrate a distributed environment:
----------
"BMC Analytics for BSM is add on software product which provides some set of reports and business logic (semantic layer) as ITSM Universe and set of Database scripts.
BMC Analytics product requires a platform which is SAP BusinessObjects Product to access its reports and universe and to integrate with AR\ITSM schema. This is similar to having AR platform and applications on top it like Service Desk, CMDB, SLM, SRM etc.
The 2 lines mentioned in docs are –
SAP BusinessObjects product has its own multiple services like Central Management Server, Web Intelligence Server, Connection Servers etc. where Central Management Server acts as a heart of the product and tracks\supplies every action on SAP BO product.
BMC Analytics must be installed on this system as it has all required SDK’s which are used to deploy the contents on BMC Analytics into SAP BO system.
The other services like Web Intelligence is used for reports processing, Connection Servers used for connectivity to source system.
SAP BO products has its own recommendation and utilizes some resources, hence in order to run the products smoothly it is recommended to have separate systems.
The diagram mentioned @ https://docs.bmc.com/docs/display/public/itsm81/Sizing+diagrams provides an example of distributed setup of AR, SAP BO and other products."
Thanks for the reply. I understand that the diagram shows a distributed deployment but both BMC Support and the Analytics documentation state that Analytics cannot be distributed and must all be installed on a single server INCLUDING the Web Intelligence Components which is what the BMC Analytics installer actually adds to. We tried distributed deployment and it was possible with some hacks, until you try to integrate with BMC Atrium SSO which assumes that all components are on one server. The SSO SME stated on the call that Analytics should all be on one server. I can try to find the two support incident IDs if you need them.
Ok, thanks Luc, I'm going to ask the subject matter expert to contact you directly.
It would be nice if these were updated to include MyIT/Smart IT.
Hi Keith,
I hope to have updated graphics available on this page and updated information on the Sizing Baselines page soon.
-Bruce.
Hi Keith, have you taken a look here: https://docs.bmc.com/docs/display/public/itsm81/Smart+IT+test+environment
This might help.
Let me know if it does not.
Thanks.
This diagrams are very informative. Thanks!!
