Enhancement
Service Pack 1 provides the following enhancement:
Inclusion of regular expressions while defining custom settings
You can now include regular expressions while defining custom settings to reword notification messages. In earlier versions, you had to specify the exact instance name. For more information, see msgBody and msgText.
Downloading the product
This section provides the information that you need to download and install the product from the BMC Electronic Product Distribution (EPD) website.
To download the installation utility and product from the EPD website
Create a directory in which to place the downloaded files.
- Go to http://www.bmc.com/available/epd.html.
- At the logon prompt, enter your user ID and password, and click Submit.
- On the Export Compliance and Access Terms page, provide the required information, agree to the terms of the agreements, and click Continue.
- If you are accessing this site for the first time, create an EPD profile to specify the languages and platforms that you want to see, per the EPD site help; otherwise, skip to step 6.
- Verify that the correct profile is displayed for your download purpose.
- You can download the installation utility and the product patch using either of the following methods:
- Using Component View
- Using Licensed Products View
Using Component View
- In the Filter Products: field, type BMC PATROL Installation Utility.
- Click Go.
- In the right pane, click BMC PATROL Installation Utility.
- In the Version: list, select 9.6.01, and click Go.
In the Products tab, based on the operating system, select the check box next to the files.

- To download the selected files, click Download (FTP) or Download Manager:
- Download (FTP) places the selected items in an FTP directory, and the credentials and FTP instructions are sent to you in an email message.
- Download Manager enables you to download multiple files consecutively and to resume an interrupted download.
This method requires a one-time installation of the Akamai NetSession client program on the target computer and is usually the faster and more reliable way to transfer files. A checksum operation is used to verify file integrity automatically.
- Click to close the window.
- Based on the operating system, in the Filter Products: field, type BMC PATROL for Microsoft Windows or BMC PATROL for Unix and Linux.
- Click Go.
- In the right pane, click BMC PATROL for Microsoft Windows or BMC PATROL for Unix and Linux.
- In the Version: list, for BMC PATROL for Microsoft Windows select 4.8.00, or for BMC PATROL for Unix and Linux select 9.13.00 click Go.
In the Products tab, based on the operating system, select the check box next to the files.

Using Licensed Products View
- Click Go To Licensed Products View.
- Locate BMC Performance Manager for Servers and expand its entries to show the available version numbers.
- Expand BMC Performance Manager for Servers 3.5.00 to show the available components.
- Expand BMC PATROL Installation Utility 9.6.01 and BMC PATROL for Microsoft Windows 4.8.00 or BMC PATROL for Unix and Linux 9.13.00 to show the available components.
Select the check box next to the files as appropriate,

Installing the product
Before you begin
You must install the product on the following computers:
- Hosts that are running the PATROL Agent
- Hosts that are running the PATROL Console
Before you install the product, complete the following steps:
- Stop the PATROL Agent.
- Back up the PATROL_CACHE directory.
- Delete all BMC PATROL for Event Management files from the PATROL_CACHE directory.
- Back up the PATROL_HOME/lib/knowledge and PATROL_HOME/lib/psl directories.
Extract the installation utility for your operating system as appropriate, for Windows, double-click ins_WINDOWS_9600.zip. The contents of the files are extracted into the bmc_products subdirectory.
Extract the product files for your operating system as appropriate, for Windows, double-click psx_ALL_4800.zip.
The contents of the files are extracted into the bmc_products subdirectory.
From the bmc_products directory, run the installation utility as appropriate for your operating system, for Windows, double-click setup.exe.
Follow the on-screen instructions until the Select Products and Components to Install page is displayed.
On the Select Type of Installation page, select Custom.
Select the appropriate system roles on the Select System Roles page.
On the Select Products and Components to Install page, expand PATROL for Microsoft Windows Servers, expand PATROL Knowledge Modules for Microsoft Windows, select PATROL Knowledge Modules for Event Management.
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. After you complete the installation steps, you can delete the temporary directory and its contents.
