A license key enables you to activate a license to run software on a specific server. For each host, you must request a unique license key using the self-service generator.

To access the self-service generator, you must own an active user login account on BMC Support Central. If you do not know your user ID and password for the site, contact BMC Customer Support contacts for your region.

License key types

A product license key is required only for the BMC Remedy Action Request System server. While a product license key is not required for BMC applications, add-on modules, and users, you must purchase valid licenses from BMC in order to use these services. You are licensed to use only the capacity that you have purchased pursuant to your license agreement and applicable order.

Log onto BMC Support Central using your Support ID to request either a Temporary or Permanent license key for the BMC AR System server.

BMC recommends that you determine the host ID of your server before requesting a license key. See Finding the host ID of the BMC Remedy AR System server.

  1. Log on to BMC Support Central at http://www.bmc.com/support.
  2. From the main menu, select Resources > License and Passwords.
  3. Click Request a New License
You can also click Request a Trial/Temporary License if needed. These licenses are valid for 30 days only.
  4. Read the BMC End User License Agreement through to the bottom, click I Agree.
  5. Enter the required (*) information.
    • Verify that your available licensed products and features are related to the Support Contract ID displayed on the form. If the correct Support ID is not displayed, contact BMC Customer Support to help manage your support IDs.
    • Select the correct AR Server version, for example, 7.1 and Higher.
    • Enter the host ID of the AR System server.

The product list with licenses applicable to your account updates automatically
  6. Find the line that contains the desired Product Feature, and under Quantity Requested, enter 1.

  7. Click Request License.
