This section describes the procedure for upgrading the Gateway Server and components. There are separate procedures for upgrading a console and an Agent on Microsoft Windows and on UNIX, and for performing a silent upgrade using the command line interface.

    Phased upgrade from earlier versions

You can use the BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization Installer to upgrade from version 10.0 or 10.3 to 10.5.

If you are using 9.5.x, first upgrade to 10.3 before upgrading to version 10.5.

If you are using version 9.0.x, you must upgrade to version 9.5.x before upgrading to version 10.3.

If you are upgrading from a version earlier than 9.0.04 and are managing Solaris DSD systems by using BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization, additional configuration steps are required:

Gateway server versions earlier than 9.0.04 did not handle multithreading in Solaris DSD systems correctly, resulting in high CPU Utilization in Perceiver. A resolution to this problem is available in 9.0.04 (and above). In addition, some database fields need to be fixed for the historical data to be reported correctly. For more information on the queries to run to fix the database, refer to Section 2 of the Knowledge Article 395012. Note that you will need to run these queries even if you are not using multithreading for the Solaris DSD servers in your environment.

    Note

To perform a silent upgrade of Gateway Server or Perform Agent, follow the instructions at Installing in silent mode.
