    This page describes changes in BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization version 10.5 in terms of level of support for specific features and components.

     

     

    Note

    Some of the items listed in this page reiterate statements from Levels of Support pages from version 10.0 and version 10.3 to ensure you will not miss them when upgrading from different versions. It is recommended you read the What's New for information on features introduced in version 10.5.

     

    Supported platforms for Application Server and ETL Engine 

    In version 10.5 of BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization, the support for Application Server and ETL Engine on Oracle Solaris  is deprecated due to lack of Customer adoption of this operating systems for instilling these BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization components. Customers are encouraged to use other supported operating systems, including Oracle Linux in case Oracle is a preferred option.     Perceiver user interface

    The Perceiver user interface was deprecated in BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization version 10.0 because all major Perceiver capabilities were made available in the BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization Console. In version 10.5 of BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization, the Perceiver user interface remains deprecated. For more information, see Architecture.

    General Manager and Virtualization Planner sections of the Perceiver user interfaces were dropped in version 10.0 as their functionalities have been integrated in the BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization Console. Therefore, if you are installing the Perceiver user interface for the first time in a 10.x version, these sections will not be installed. On the contrary, if you are migrating from a previous version to version 10.x, you may still see the General Manager and Virtualization Planner sections from their Perceiver user interface even if these sections have been dropped because the upgrade procedure will not remove them. However, since these sections have been dropped from the 10.x versions, they are not to be considered part of the product and hence are not supported. 

    Visualizer user interface

    The Visualizer user interface was deprecated in BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization version 10.0 because all major Visualizer capabilities are provided by the BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization Console. In version 10.5 of BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization, the Visualizer user interface remains deprecated. For more information, see Architecture.

    Motif-based user interfaces

    All the Motif-based user interfaces (including Investigate, Analyze and Predict) included in Linux Gateway Server are now deprecated in BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization version 10.5. Customers are encouraged to use the corresponding Windows-based user interfaces. Customers can continue to use Linux for the Gateway Server component for backend processing (Manager Runs).  

    Visualizer Database and related components

    The Visualizer Database and the related components, Automator and MPopulate (for UNIX platforms), were deprecated in BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization version 10.0 as integration via VIS files is the recommended approach for integrating data collected by BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization Agents into BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization Database. For more information, see Architecture. As a result, the now renamed BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization CDB-CDB extractor was also deprecated in BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization version 10.0. In version 10.5 of BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization, the Visualizer Database and the related components, Automator and MPopulate (for UNIX platforms), as well the CDB-CDB extractor remain deprecated.

    Integration via Windows Proxy Agents

    The Windows Proxy Agent component is now deprecated in BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization version 10.5 because a better integration option for Windows technologies is offered by the connector to Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) provided by Movìri add-on (see Moviri ETL modules), both in terms of flexibility and scalability. Customers are encouraged to adopt the SCOM connector for remotely collecting data for Windows technology. Please verify whether your license entitlement of TrueSight Capacity Optimization includes this add-on. Customers should continue to use the Windows Agents for collecting workloads and process data (aka Virtual Note) from the local system where they are installed.

    Please notice that a previous version of the connector for Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM), which was based on SCOM Operational Database was deprecated in version 9.5 and then dropped in version 10.0. The recommend SCOM connector is instead based on SCOM Data Warehouse, which is the Microsoft recommended integration point.

     

    Integration via vCenter Proxy Agents

    The vCenter Proxy Agent component was deprecated in version 10.0  and then dropped in version 10.3 because a better integration option to vCenter being provided by the connector to vCenter (see VMware vCenter), both in terms of scalability and impact on vCenter infrastructure.

    Support for integration of VIS files related to vSphere technology collected from vCenter Proxy Agent component was left in version 10.3 for compatibility reasons. This support is now dropped in BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization version 10.5 (see BMC TrueSight Gateway Server).


    Integration with BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization Agents

    To integrate data collected by BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization Agents into BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization Database, a Gateway Server version 10.5 is required while older versions of the BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization Agents are still supported (refer to Gateway Server). For more information, see Architecture.

    As a consequence of the Visualizer Database remaining deprecated in BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization version 10.5 (see Visualizer Database and related components), the BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization CDB-CDB extractor also remains deprecated in version 10.5.

    Integrations with BMC TrueSight Operations Management

    The connector for PATROL Agent logs was originally deprecated in BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization version 10.0 and then dropped in version 10.5 because the recommended integration point was provided by the BMC TrueSight Operations Management Infrastructure solution. With BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization version 10.5 a new connector (see BMC TrueSight Operations Management 10.1 extractor) is available to integrate BMC TrueSight Operations Management Infrastructure version 10.1 based on the new Data Integration REST APIs provided by this version. Customers are recommended to migrate to BMC TrueSight Operations Management Infrastructure version 10.1 and take advantage of this new connector.

    Integration to Atrium CMDB - Service Context

    Support for the Atrium Service Context functionality is now deprecated in BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization version 10.5. The Service Context functionality (seen Launching the BMC Atrium Service Context) had been introduced to allow BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization to launch BMC Atrium Service Context application from the BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization Console. This required having a BMC Atrium CMDB implementation and was only available for a selected business service configuration item (CI). 

    Integration with NetApp Data Fabric Manager and NetApp Storage view

    Advanced Reports for Storage

    The Advanced Reports templates for Storage are now deprecated as better Basic Report templates are available from the Sentry Software Integration for BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization add-on (version 10.5) which leverage the new reporting capabilities released in BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization version 10.5. Please verify whether your license entitlement of TrueSight Capacity Optimization includes this add-on.

    Integration with OS native tools

    The following connectors for OS native tools for Solaris were deprecated in BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization version 10.0 and then dropped in version 10.3 because better data collection options are available in BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization or in BMC TrueSight Operations Management data collection:

    • System Activity Report (SAR) log parser
    • Solaris Zone Extended Accounting parser

    Grouping Object construct

    The Grouping Object construct was deprecated in BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization version 10.0 and then dropped in version 10.3.

    Tabular reports

    The Tabular Report template type is now deprecated in BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization version 10.5 because the same results can be obtained with either custom Advanced Report templates (BIRT format) or with a Basic Report including tabular Enterprise Reporting analysis. Customers are encouraged to start using these options. In case you need to use Tabular Reports, you can still enable the deprecated option in Global Configuration. For more information, see UI Defaults.

    Consolidation Models

    The Consolidation Models are now deprecated in BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization version 10.5 because better support for consolidation/virtualization scenarios is provided by the functionalities provided by the Virtual Planner (see Virtual Planner). Customers are encouraged to start using Virtual Planner in place of Consolidation Models.

    Support for Internet Explorer

    As indicated in the Software requirements, support for Internet Explorer version 9 is deprecated in BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization version 10.5, in favor of newer versions of the same browser, also in consideration of the fact that the TrueSight Console does not support this version.
