The TrueSight console is a modern, web-based user interface technology integrated throughout the TrueSight product suite. This new technology, which is hosted on the Presentation Server, is a more modern and interactive UI, and is also available on mobile devices such as tablets.

In version 10.5.00 of BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization, the Capacity Pools view is available on this new interface.

Access to the Presentation Server component is enabled through integrated system authentication with BMC Atrium Single Sign-On. Any Atrium SSO user authorized to access the Capacity Pools view, can login to this component.

Before you begin

  • You must be logged on to a BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization console with a user account that has been assigned a role that includes access to the Administration tab, such as the ADMIN role. 
  • Ensure that the  BMC Atrium Single Sign-On 9.0 system is installed The Presentation Server will not operate without Atrium Single Sign-On.
  • Ensure that you have configured BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization with Atrium Single Sign-On. For more information, see Authentication. 
  • Ensure that TrueSight Presentation Server machine is able to ping the TrueSight Capacity Optimization datahub machine. Otherwise, you get the following error in the Presentation Server: Registration Error - Capacity Optimization component registration is failed due to internal errors.

Installation workflow

To be able to access Capacity Pools view, you must add the Capacity Optimization component on the TrueSight console. Follow the order of installation steps as listed:

  1. Download the installation files for BMC TrueSight Presentation Server. 
  2. Install BMC TrueSight Presentation Server
  3. Deploy the Capacity Pools view package in the BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization console.
  4. Download and install the Capacity Optimization plugin in BMC TrueSight Presentation Server directory.
  5. Add the Capacity Optimization component in the TrueSight console.

To download and install the Capacity Optimization plugin


Before you begin the installation of the Capacity Optimization plugin, you must verify the installation of the TrueSight Presentation Server, by ensuring that you can successfully log on to the TrueSight Presentation Server.

  1. In the BMC TrueSight Optimization console, click Administration > VIEWS > Views. 
  2. In the Views page, under Plugin for TrueSight Presentation Server, click Download plugin
  3. Copy the plugin zip file to the machine where TrueSight Presentation Server is installed.
  4. Install the Capacity Optimization plugin.
    1. Open a command prompt and go to the root folder of your Presentation Server installation.
    2. Navigate to the bin directory and run the tssh utility to install the plugin.

      On Linux:
      • To do a fresh install, type nohup ./tssh componenttype add <path>/

      • To upgrade an existing plugin zip file, type nohup ./tssh componenttype update <path>/

      On Windows:
      • To do a fresh install, type tssh componenttype add <path>/
      • To upgrade an existing plugin zip file, type tssh componenttype update <path>/


      • <path> refers to the location where the plugin file is saved.

      • Before Cumulative Hot Fix 1 for 10.5.00, the Capacity Optimization plugin name was

  5. The tssh command installs the plugin and restarts the Presentation Server.

    Verifying plugin installation

    If the plugin is installed correctly, the following message is displayed: Installed component type successfully.

  6. When the TrueSight Presentation restarts, log in and add the Capacity Optimization component in the TrueSight console.

To add the Capacity Optimization component in the TrueSight console

  1. In the TrueSight console, click Administration > Components.
  2. In the Components page, select the action menu next to Components, and select Add Component.

  3. For the component type, select Capacity Optimization. 

  4. Enter a valid Host Name or IP Address.


    • If the "Invalid Host Name or IP Address" message appears, re-enter a valid name or address. The name or address cannot start or end with a dash ( - ), cannot contain any spaces, or exceed 63 characters.

  5. Select the Protocol as HTTPS or HTTP. The default is HTTPS. 
  6. Accept the Port default value (8280).

  7. Accept BmcRealm as the default tenant or select any of the listed tenants. The list includes each tenant defined in the Atrium Single Sign-On system.

  8. Click Save.

    The Capacity Optimization component is added and is listed in the Components page.

    Verifying component registration

    If the component is successfully registered, the Status column shows Connected, that indicates that the component is registered successfully, as shown in the following image:

    Capacity views is available in the Navigation panel. You can start accessing the capacity views from the Capacity views menu.


    If Atrium Single Sign-On is not configured correctly with BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization, you get the following error when you try to access the Capacity Pools View: BCO_PS_ERR102: Unauthorized: Capacity Optimization access is denied, check your Atrium Single Sign On configuration.
