    This page describes changes in BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization in terms of level of support for specific features and components.

    Note

    This topic lists the consolidated changes to the Levels of Support from version 9.5 to version 10.3. It is recommended you read What's New for information on features introduced in version 10.0.

    Perceiver user interface

    In BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization version 10.0, the Perceiver user interface was deprecated because all major Perceiver capabilities were made available in the BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization Console. In version 10.3 of BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization, the Perceiver user interface remains deprecated.

    Notice that as for version 10.0 also for version 10.3, if you are migrating from a previous version, you may still see some sections (with their old names of General Manager and Virtualization Planner) from their Perceiver user interface while if you are installing the Perceiver user interface for the first time, these sections are not available from the Perceiver user interface as they have already been integrated in the BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization Console since previous sections.

    Visualizer user interface

    In BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization version 10.0, the Visualizer user interface was deprecated because all major Visualizer capabilities are provided by the BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization Console. In version 10.3 of BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization, the Visualizer user interface remains deprecated. For more information, see Architecture.

    Visualizer Database and related components

    In BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization version 10.0, the Visualizer Database and the related components, Automator and MPopulate (for UNIX platforms), were deprecated as the recommended approach for integrating data collected by BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization Agents into BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization Database is provided by VIS files. For more information, see Architecture. As a result, the now renamed BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization CDB-CDB extractor was also deprecated. In version 10.3 of BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization, the Visualizer Database and the related components, Automator and MPopulate (for UNIX platforms), as well the CDB-CDB extractor remain deprecated.

    Integration via vCenter Proxy Agents

    In BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization version 10.0, the vCenter Proxy Agent component was deprecated because a better integration option to vCenter was provided by a BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization connector (see VMware vCenter), both in terms of scalability and impact on vCenter infrastructure. With the release of version 10.3, the vCenter Proxy Agent component is dropped.

    The level of support for Windows Proxy Agent in BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization 10.3 is not affected.

    Integration with BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization Agents

    To integrate data collected by BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization Agents into BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization Database, version 10.3 of the Gateway Server (previously known as BMC Performance Assurance Console) is required. Older versions of the BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization Agents (previously known as BMC Performance Assurance Agents) are still supported (refer to Gateway Server). For more information, see Architecture.

    As a consequence of the Visualizer Database being deprecated in BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization version 10.3 (see above), the BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization CDB-CDB extractor also remains deprecated in 10.3.

    Integrations with BMC TrueSight Operations Management

    In BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization version 10.0, the connector for PATROL Agent logs was deprecated because the recommended integration point was provided by the BMC TrueSight Operations Management infrastructure. With the release of version 10.3 of BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization, the connector for PATROL Agent logs is dropped.

    Integrations with BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management

    In BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization version 10.3, BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management versions 4.0, 4.1 and 4.5 are supported by the BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization integration. If you need support for previous versions of BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management, you can use BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization 10.0. For more information, see BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management .

    Integration with Microsoft System Center Operations Manager

    The connector for Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM), which was based on SCOM Operational Database was deprecated in version 9.5 and dropped in version 10.0. The BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization add-on, Moviri Integration for BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization, provides a connector for SCOM based on Data Warehouse, which is the Microsoft recommended integration point. This connector provides more extensive coverage in terms of SCOM versions, managed platforms, and metrics.

    Integration with EMC2 StorageScope and EMC Storage view

    Integration with NetApp Data Fabric Manager and NetApp Storage view

    The connector for NetApp SDK was deprecated in version 10.0 and replaced by an integration approach provided by the BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization add-on Sentry Software Integration for BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization. This approach provides connectors for several storage technologies (including NetApp) and does not require a Storage Management solution as prerequisites and also provides a cross-technology best-practice view for storage. With the release of BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization 10.0 the NetApp Storage view was also deprecated.

    In version 10.3 of BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization, the NetApp SDK connector and the NetApp Storage view have been dropped. The NetApp SDK connector and the NetApp Storage view have been published as template artifacts on the BMC Communities site.

    Integration with OS native tools

    In BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization version 10.0, the following connectors for OS native tools for Solaris were deprecated because better data collection options are available in BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization or in BMC TrueSight Operations Management data collection:

    • System Activity Report (SAR) log parser
    • Solaris Zone Extended Accounting parser

    With the release of BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization 10.3, these connectors are now dropped. These connectors listed were already published as template artifacts on the BMC Community site.

    In addition, the following connectors were dropped in BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization 10.0:

    • Linux Configuration File Parser
    • Oracle Solaris Configuration Parser
    • AIX Configuration Parser
    • UNIX Measurement Suite (UMS) Parser
    • AIX Topas command Parser
    • IOstat command Parser
    • df command Parser
    • Nmon for LPAR Parser
    • Microsoft Performance Monitor

    Integration via Data Accumulator poller

    All pollers included in the Data Accumulator component (such as Host Resources MIB and Oracle WebLogic SNMP) and all connectors based on standard SNMP agents (such as those provided by Red Hat/CentOS) were deprecated in version 9.5 of BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization and dropped in version 10.0. Improved integration options are available in BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization and in BMC TrueSight Operations Management.

    Grouping Object construct

    The Grouping Object construct was deprecated in version 10.0 of BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization and dropped in version 10.3.
