The Capacity Pools View allows a system administrator to rank all the capacity pools available in the workspace. The following capacity pools types are supported in this view:

  • AIX Power VM hosts
  • VMware Clusters
  • KVM Hosts

Currently, Storage Pools and VMware Datastore capacity pool types are not supported in the Capacity Pools View.

Note

The Capacity Pools view is not configured according to the access control defined for the user roles.

Each capacity pool view displays the ranking based on Usage, Risk, and Efficiency score. It is represented in a doughnut chart as shown in the example below.

The Usage, Risk, and Efficiency score is based on the CPU, Memory, and Disk usage on a capacity pool.

Click to view more details of each capacity pool.

The Usage component distribution is displayed using a bar chart. The Risk component distribution is displayed using a circle chart. The Efficiency component distribution is displayed using a pie chart.

Viewing the capacity pool details page

Click located at the top right corner of an individual capacity pool to see its configuration data and contained elements. The details page displays the following information:

  • General details of the capacity pool such as name, type, description, and tags
  • Configuration data for the capacity pool
  • Analysis charts: Core metrics for the selected entity are displayed as analysis charts, depending on the available data. Utilization chart is the base chart and displays CPU, memory and datastore utilization information.

Risk


OverallRisk ScoreIndicates the overall risk of the container pool, calculated by assigning penalty points for key capacity and performance metrics of the container pool. Metrics from CPU and Memory are taken into account.
CPUCPU Risk Score

Maximum of the CPU risk indicators of the underlying AIX frames. CPU risk of the underlying AIX frames are computed using key capacity indicators like CPU days to saturation and CPU demand indicators like CPU queue length.

MemoryMemory Risk ScoreMaximum of the Memory risk indicators of the underlying AIX frames. Memory risk of the underlying AIX frames are computed using key capacity indicators like Memory days to saturation and Memory demand indicators like paging.
Disk Not supported

 

 

Efficiency


OverallEfficiency ScoreIndicates the overall efficiency of the container pool, calculated by combining the efficiency of CPU and memory resources of the container pool. Under-used CPU and memory resources are considered inefficient use of resources.
CPUCPU Efficiency ScoreHigher values indicate higher efficiency.
MemoryMemory Efficiency ScoreHigher values indicate higher efficiency.

Risk Details

FiledDescription
NameThe name of the element from the capacity pool. Click on this to view details of an element.
Risk ScoreIndicates the overall risk of the container pool, calculated by assigning penalty points for key capacity and performance metrics of the container pool. Metrics from CPU, Memory, Storage are taken into account.
CPU Pressure IndexAn index between 0 and 100, calculated using CPU utilization and CPU ready time. Higher the value, higher the pressure. This metric is calculated for VMware hosts and clusters, and for KVM hosts.
CPU Days To SaturationThe projected amount of time before the CPU runs out of available capacity.
Memory Pressure IndexAn index between 0 and 100 that takes into account memory usage and contention, and provides a realistic picture of the memory pressure in the VMware clusters and hosts, and in the KVM hosts. This is used to compute Composite Memory Utilization and Composite Memory Consumption.
Memory Days To SaturationThe projected amount of time before the memory runs out of available memory.
Storage Pressure IndexThis indicator is used as a correction for the datastore utilization to obtain the true utilization.
Storage Days to SaturationThe projected amount of time before the disk runs out of available capacity.

Efficiency ScoreIndicates the overall efficiency of the container pool, produced by combining the efficiency of CPU, Memory, Storage resources of the container pool. Under-used resources, Idle VMs, and old snapshots are considered inefficient use of resources.
CPU Usage (75 Percentile)Indicates the efficiency of CPU usage based on 75 percentile of the CPU Utilization metric.
Memory Usage (75 Percentile)Indicates the efficiency of memory usage based on 75 percentile of the Composite Memory Utilization metric.
Storage Usage (75 Percentile)Indicates the efficiency of disk usage based on 75 percentile of the Disk Used metric.
