This topic provides information about the various user personas available in BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization.

BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization user personas

PersonaResponsibilitySections of interest

Administrator(s) are responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining the BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization implementation.

Some of the on-going tasks executed by an Administrator are:

  • Install and upgrade the product
  • Create users or configure an LDAP integration, create and assign roles and access groups to users, and deployment of views
  • Deploy connectors (ETLs) to integrate data from different data sources in BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization database and verify that all scheduled ETLs are successfully executed
  • Ensure that the BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization environment remains healthy over time, also uses the self monitoring capabilities provided by BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization

Capacity Planner

Capacity Planner(s) are the primary actor of the Capacity Management process, and power users of the BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization solution.

Some of the on-going tasks executed by a Capacity Planner are:

  • Create analysis to establish normal utilization profiles and baselines, analyze the impact of operational and process events on resource utilization, and identify periodic behaviors and busiest periods
  • Create forecasting models to predict future utilization of system resources and business KPIs, and simulate how to remove or postpone potential saturation by using what-if scenarios
  • Create consolidation and visualization scenario to automatically identify best best candidates, simulate optimal placement for already deployed and hypocritical workloads, and optimize existing infrastructure
  • Configure automatic notifications and by-exception reports to be generated, published, and distributed to members of the Capacity Management team, or other end users

End User

End Users of capacity management outputs can represent a variety of different roles, such as Storage Administrators, Cloud Architects, IT Operations Managers, Service Owners, and Tenant Administrator.

They usually do not execute any task on BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization, and only access and consume results of the Capacity Management process such as BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization reports or views.

Entities and metrics

Developer(s) of the BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization solution are (internal or external) resources that can develop additional integrations (i.e. custom connectors) and contents (e.g. custom report templates and portlet views) by using the Integration Studio tool.

BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization provides general-purpose connectors that can be used to easily integrate data sources without having to develop connectors from scratch. Also, BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization provides a variety of out-of-the-box report templates and comprehensive set of out-of-the-box views as well as simple mechanisms that can be used directly from the User Interface to create new reports and views. Therefore, most of the implementations of BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization do not require any custom development.
