This section describes enhancements related to TrueSight Capacity Optimization analytical capabilities.
Reservations are a new construct that allow you to take into account expected demand from future projects into the capacity management process. Reservations enable you to ensure that adequate capacity for new projects is reserved, additional capacity is on-boarded as required by these projects, and that adequate visibility on the real spare capacity is provided to all stakeholders, when committed projects are taken into account. For more information on how to use this feature, see Reservations.
You can now create, edit, and use System templates to represent hypothetical systems that are planned to be deployed as part of a virtualization scenario. For more information, see Virtual Planner.
Moreover, additional time filter options are now available from the settings page. For more information, see Virtual Planner settings.
This section describes enhancements related to TrueSight Capacity Optimization integration of data sources.
A new out-of-the-box ETL module has been added to help manage your OpenStack cloud environments. This ETL leverages OpenStack Nova APIs to integrate cloud constructs and relationships into BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization to provide capacity visibility on OpenStack-based clouds. For more information on how to configure and use this ETL, see OpenStack - OpenStack API Extractor.
A new out-of-the-box ETL module has been added to help manage Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization (RHEV) environments. This ETL leverages Red Had REST API exposed by the RHEV Manager. For more information on how to configure and use this ETL, see Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization - Extractor service.
Additional filter options for white listing and black listing have been added to the ETL module for VMware vCenter ETL that provide the ability to filter clusters and top-level hosts. For more information on how to configure and use this ETL see VMware vCenter.
The new Entity catalog panel now provides a better way to ensure that different ETL modules are referring to same entities, with respect to the notion of "shared lookup tables" previously used in previous versions of the product. For more information on creating and managing these catalogs, see Entity catalogs.
Database connections to external databases used by ETL modules can now be configured more easily. For more information on creating these connections, see External DB connections.
This section describes enhancements related to TrueSight Capacity Optimization views.
The new Capacity Pools view provide the ability to visualize key indicators of capacity usage, risk and efficiency associated to Capacity Pools. Capacity Pools are new constructs that represent aggregations of capacity containers (e.g. vSphere clusters) based on different criteria. For more information, see Capacity Pools View.
All the Virtualization views have been enriched with new Data Explorer pages that provide better visibility thanks to additional charts for key metrics and drill-down from summary views.
For more information, see the following:
|AIX Data Explorer views||Solaris Data Explorer views||XenServer Data Explorer views|
|HP-UX Data Explorer views||KVM Data Explorer views||vSphere Data Explorer views|
BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization Views.have two additional time filter options (Yesterday and Last 7 days), in addition to the existing default of Last 30 days. For more information, see any of the
This section describes topics related to technology updates.
The following technologies have been updated to reduce vulnerability:
The following additional Operation Systems are now supported by the BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization Application Server:
Red Hat Enterprise Linux
For a complete list of supported Operating Systems, see Software requirements.
The following additional databases are now supported by the BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization Application Server:
|Oracle (client)||12c R1|
The current compatibility offering for the PostgreSQL database supports only small/medium environments handling up to 25 million records per day.
For a complete list of supported databases, see Database requirements.
This section describes topics related to installation and administration.
An alternative database (PostgreSQL) can now be selected as BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization database backend in addition to Oracle. An installation option is provided while installing the Application Server. For more information, see Installing Application Server and components.
BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization now can manage "pure" (no dual stack configuration) IPv6 environments also when BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization Agents are deployed. A network configuration option is provided while installing the Gateway Server. For more information, see Installing Gateway Server and components.
A new notification area has been added to the Welcome page. This area provides a quick view of the failures and warnings in the system. You can click an error to diagnostic information. For more information, see Getting Started with the Console.
