A set of attributes are stored in the data warehouse by default. For example, a set of device inventory and rule attributes are added to the warehouse by default.

The following device inventory attributes are stored in the data warehouse by default:

  • Name
  • Realm
  • Hostname/IP Address
  • Device Type
  • Device Category
  • Model
  • OS Image

The following rule attributes are stored by default in the data warehouse:

  • Name
  • Ruleset
  • Severity
  • Category

You can add custom fields to the warehouse using the BMC Network Automation dynamic fields feature. The dynamic fields feature allows you to add custom fields to Device Inventory, Jobs/Policies, Templates, Rules, and other application components. For more information about dynamic fields, see the BMC Network Automation User Guide, which is accessible from PDFs in the BMC Network Automation wiki.

You can add device dynamic fields such as, Business Services, Location, Serial Number, as reporting attributes. These device dynamic fields are stored in the data warehouse, making them available for use in reports. Device dynamic fields can be

  • Displayed as content in reports
  • Used to filter report content (for example, you can show compliance violations for a specific business service).

You can add rule dynamic fields to the data warehouse. These rule dynamic fields are stored in the data warehouse and you can use them to filter reports.

To select a device or rule dynamic field for export to the data warehouse:

  1. Log into BMC Network Automation as an administrator.
  2. Go to Admin > System Admin > Dynamic Fields.
  3. Select the dynamic field type that you want to warehouse, for example Device, provide other field specifications, such as Name, and then select the Export to Warehouse option.
