SQL Server 2000 service packs requirements

BMC Database Automation requires the SQL Server 2000 service packs to be in a .zip file format that contains the uncompressed directory tree containing the service pack files. Depending on the method by which you received the service pack, the preparation requirement varies:

  • For service packs downloaded from the Internet: After downloading an SQL Server 2000 service pack from the Internet, run the self-extracting executable and place the extracted content into a .zip file. Upload the .zip file to BMC Database Automation. This is not required for SQL Server 2008 or 2005 service packs.
  • For service packs provided on a CD or DVD: The SQL Server Media Uploaded Tool can create a .zip file from SQL Server 2000 SP4 media that can then be uploaded to create a patch package. If you received SP4 on CD or DVD, the SQL Server Media Uploader Tool automatically detects it and creates the needed .zip file.

After you have the .zip file, create a patch package, and provide the .zip file as the package payload.

Note

BMC Database Automation does not support patching SQL Server 2000 with service packs earlier than Service Pack 4.
