This topic lists hardware and software requirements that must be met for virtual machine-based components and for other components before installing and using the BMC Transaction Execution Adapter  Agent (TEA Agent). The following topics are presented:

    BMC TrueSight App Visibility server

To run synthetic monitoring, you must have a functioning App Visibility server.

See System requirements for App Visibility Manager and Installing App Visibility Manager components for more details.

    Scripting requirements and execution module

BMC TrueSight Synthetic Monitor with Borland Silk Performer (Silk Performer) is the utility that enables an application specialist to record or author .ltz scripts that simulate user transactions. BMC provides some basic scripts and you can create your own realistic and customizable scripts with Silk Performer. Synthetic monitoring supports script protocols created with Silk Performer, such as HTTP, SAP, and Citrix.

Each computer with the TEA Agent requires an execution module to run the scripts. On each TEA Agent computer, install the full Silk Performer installation, or a smaller execution-module-only installation.

To take advantage of support for the latest Silk Performer features, ensure that your system has the latest version of Silk Performer or the execution modules.

    Notes

    • When you install the Silk Performer execution module, select the Silk Performer 16.5 SDK option on the Choose Install Set screen.
    • If you are planning on installing the Silk Performer SDK silently, make sure to download the silent.sdk.properties file from EPD beforehand.

System requirements for the TEA Agent

Before installing a BMC Synthetic Transaction Execution Adapter (TEA) Agent to monitor synthetic transactions, ensure that the host computer complies with the requirements described in the following sections.

Hardware requirements for the TEA Agent

The TEA Agent computer requires the following minimum resource requirements:

    • 50 GB of free disk space
    • 4 GB of RAM
    • 2 CPUs

If you run more than one TEA Agent on the same computer, multiply the resources depending on the number of TEA agents that you have.  For example, If you have 3 TEA Agents on a system, you need 150 GB of space (3 * 50 GB), 6 CPUs (3* 2 CPUs) and 12 GB of RAM (3* 4 GB).  You may need even more resources depending on the complexity and resource use of your scripts.

Software requirements for the TEA Agent

Before installing the TEA Agent, verify that the Agent computer meets the following software requirements:

    • Microsoft Windows operating system:
      • Microsoft Windows 2008 R2

      • Microsoft Windows 7 32-bit

      • Microsoft Windows 7 64-bit

      • Microsoft Windows 8 32-bit

      • Microsoft Windows 8 64-bit

      • Microsoft Windows 8.1 32-bit
      • Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-bit
      • Microsoft Windows Server 2012
      • Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2

    Note

For running multiple Silk Test scripts in parallel, a Windows Server edition platform is required.

    • Execution module: On the Agent computer, install an execution module to run the scripts. You can install the full BMC TrueSight Synthetic Monitor with Borland Silk Performer scripting utility, or the smaller Silk Performer execution module.

      Note

Run the Silk Performer installation utility as an administrator on the TEA Agent computer.

    1. Can i deploy TEA Agent and Silk Performer in the same server i installed App visibility portal and collector for Testing environment. if yes what us the requirements .

      1. Hi Mohamed,

Yes, you can install the TEA Agent and SP on the same server as the AV portal and collector in your testing environment. There are no special requirements, just make sure that you meet all of the requirements of the individual components.

    2. Hello Benjie ,

Regarding this Part " For running multiple Silk Test scripts in parallel, a Windows Server edition platform is required."

what is the max number of script to run from Client machine . that is when i exceed this number i must have Windows server ?

      1. Hi Mohamed,

The maximum is 1. Please note that this is referring to Silk Test scripts, not Silk Performer scripts.

        1. Thank you Benjie for your prompt action . another more question

Now I can use Client Machine like (Windows 7) to run 120 Execution plan. Right?

AND. How can i use SILK TEST. this generate also package with extension .LTZ to use it in TEA Agent.

    3. Hi Mohamed,

      1. Yes, each TEA Agent can run up to 120 Execution Plans.
      2. Silk Test, does not generate .ltz files. Silk Performer generates .ltz files. For converting Silk Test files to .ltz, see Preparing Silk Test script execution for synthetic transaction monitoring.

      1. Thank you so much . another more question if i convert silk test to .ltz. and use client machine . this project now is still silk test not silk performer ?. so i must run only one script like this in the client machine !
