This topic contains information about enhancements and fixes in BMC PATROL for Light Weight Protocols 2.0.10 and provides instructions for downloading the installation files.

Enhancements

The following are the enhancements in BMC PATROL for Light Weight Protocols 2.0.10.

Renamed monitor types

Following monitor types have been renamed:

New Agent action

A new Agent action, Generate Report has been added in this release of BMC PATROL for Light Weight Protocols. The Generate Report agent action generates reports of devices you are monitoring.

You can also generate report from PATROL Configuration Manager using the configuration variable, /PSM/PSM_Root/ReportDefinition. For more information, see Configure network devices using PCM.

Enhancement in instance to device mapping option

In Operations Console, monitor instances are displayed as a device. Now in BMC PATROL for Light Weight Protocols, with the following two options,  you can select either the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) or user-defined name as the device name:

  •  Enabled: FQDNDisplays FQDN as the device name of the network device in the Operations Console 
  • Enabled: User defined: Displays user defined name (alias name) as the device name of the network device in the Operations Console

Downloading the service pack

This section provides the information that you need to download and install the service pack from the BMC Electronic Product Distribution (EPD) website.

To download the installation utility and service pack from the EPD website

  1. Create a directory for the downloaded files.

    On Windows computers, ensure that the directory is only one level into the directory structure. The EPD package creates a directory in the temporary directory when you extract the files, and the directory that contains the installation image should not be in a directory deeper than two levels into the directory structure.

  2. Go to http://www.bmc.com/available/epd.html.
  3. At the logon prompt, enter your user ID and password, and click Submit.
  4. On the Export Compliance and Access Terms page, provide the required information, agree to the terms of the agreements, and click Continue.
  5. If you are accessing this site for the first time, create an EPD profile to specify the languages and platforms that you want to see, per the EPD site help; otherwise, skip to step 6.
  6. Verify that the correct profile is displayed for your download purpose.
  7. You can download the installation utility and the product service pack using either of the following methods:
Using Component View 
  1. In the Filter Products field, type BMC PATROL Installation Utility.

  2. Click Go.

  3. In the right pane, click BMC PATROL Installation Utility.
  4. In the Version list, select 9.6.01, and click Go.
  5. In the Products tab, select the check box next to the file.

  6. To download the selected files, click Download (FTP) or Download Manager:
    • Download (FTP) places the selected items in an FTP directory, and the credentials and FTP instructions are sent to you in an email message.
    • Download Manager enables you to download multiple files consecutively and to resume an interrupted download.
      This method requires a one-time installation of the Akamai NetSession client program on the target computer and is usually the faster and more reliable way to transfer files. A checksum operation is used to verify file integrity automatically.
  7. Click   icon to close the window.
  8. In the Filter Products: field, type BMC PATROL for Lightweight Protocols.
  9. Click Go.
  10. In the right pane, click BMC PATROL for Light Weight Protocols.
  11. In the Version list, select 2.0.10, in the Platform list, select Microsoft Windows/NT, and click Go.
  12. In the Products tab, select the check box next to the file.

  13. To download the selected files, click Download (FTP) or Download Manager. 
    • Download (FTP) places the selected items in an FTP directory, and the credentials and FTP instructions are sent to you in an email message.
    • Download Manager enables you to download multiple files consecutively and to resume an interrupted download.
      This method requires a one-time installation of the Akamai NetSession client program on the target computer and is usually the faster and more reliable way to transfer files. A checksum operation is used to verify file integrity automatically.
  14. Complete the installation procedure described in the Installing section.
Using Licensed Products View 
  1. Click Go To Licensed Products View.
  2. Locate BMC Performance Manager for Web Application Servers and expand its entries to show the available version numbers.
  3. Expand BMC Performance Manager for Web Application Servers 4.0.10 to show the available components.
  4. Expand BMC PATROL Installation Utility 9.6.01 to show the available files.
  5. Select the check box next to the file.

Installing the service pack

 

Note

Before you install the service pack, you must have previously installed BMC PATROL for Light Weight Protocols 2.0.00. The service pack does not contain all of the files that are required for a complete product release.

 

Before you begin

You must install the service pack on the following computers:

  • Hosts that are running the PATROL Agent
  • Hosts that are running the PATROL Console

Before you install the service pack, complete the following steps:

  1. Stop the PATROL Agent.
  2. Back up the PATROL_CACHE directory.
  3. Delete all BMC PATROL for Light Weight Protocols files from the PATROL_CACHE directory.
  4. Back up the PATROL_HOME/lib/knowledge and PATROL_HOME/lib/psl directories.

To install the BMC PATROL for Light Weight Protocols 2.0.10 Service Pack

  1. Extract the installation utility for your operating system as appropriate:

    • For Windows, double-click ins_WINDOWS_9600.zip.
    • For UNIX, enter tar -xvf ins_ALL_9600.tar.

      The contents of the files are extracted into the bmc_products subdirectory.
  2. Extract the service pack files for your operating system as appropriate:
    • For Windows, double-click PLP_ALL_2010.zip
    • For UNIX, enter PLP_ALL_2010.tar.

      The contents of the files are extracted into the bmc_products subdirectory. 
  3. From the bmc_products directory, run the installation utility as appropriate for your operating system:

    • For Windows, double-click setup.exe.

    • For UNIX, run setup.sh.

  4. Follow the on-screen instructions until the Select Products and Components to Install page is displayed. 

  5. On the Select Products and Components to Install page, select PATROL for Light Weight Protocols - Service Pack 2.0.10.

  6. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

    After you complete the installation steps, you can delete the temporary directory and its contents.
