Service Pack 1 provides the following enhancements:
PATROL for Sybase now supports password encryption in Sybase ASE login.
By default, jConnect for JDBC sends plain text passwords over the network to Adaptive Server for authentication. However, jConnect also supports symmetrical and asymmetrical password encryption and can encrypt passwords before they are sent over the network.
For information about configuring the Sybase ASE, see Configuring in PATROL console or Configuring Sybase ASE using Central Monitoring Administration.
PATROL for Sybase can now monitor Sybase ASE with SSL enabled.
With the implementation of SSL, PATROL for Sybase provides several levels of security:
The Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise authenticates itself, which proves that it is the server you intended to connect. As a result, an encrypted SSL session begins before any data is transmitted.
Once the SSL session is established, the client requesting a connection can send his user name and password over the secure, encrypted connection.
A comparison of the digital signature on the server certificate can determine whether the data received by the client was modified before reaching the intended recipient.
For information about configuring the Sybase ASE with SSL enabled, see Configuring Sybase ASE Server in PATROL environment or Configuring Sybase ASE using Central Monitoring Administration.
From Central Monitoring Administration and using pconfig variable, you can set the value of Long Running Trans parameter to an interval of more than 600 seconds
This section provides the information that you need to download and install the service pack from the BMC Electronic Product Distribution (EPD) website.
Create a directory for the downloaded files.
Note
On Windows computers, ensure that the directory is only one level into the directory structure. The EPD package creates a directory in the temporary directory when you extract the files, and the directory that contains the installation image should not be in a directory deeper than two levels into the directory structure.
In the Products tab, based on the operating system, select the check box next to the files.
