This section describes how to prepare for an upgrade of the BMC ProactiveNet product. The processes discussed in this section are formulated to ensure the successful transfer of configuration settings and customization. It also aims in minimizing event loss and protecting the existing data. Therefore, before upgrading, review the following sections and plan the upgrade process:

  • Supported upgrade paths — To determine whether you can upgrade all earlier versions to the current version directly or if you have to plan for an incremental upgrade from the earlier versions.
  • Prerequisites for upgrade — To determine the tasks that you must perform before you upgrade the product. Tasks such as backing up the database must be performed before you upgrade the product.
  • Sequence for upgrading BMC ProactiveNet — To determine the sequence of tasks that you must perform to upgrade to BMC ProactiveNet version 9.6.00.

You can directly upgrade to BMC ProactiveNet version 9.6.00 from 9.0.xx or 9.5.xx.

BMC ProactiveNet version 8.6.02.xx

To upgrade to BMC ProactiveNet version 9.6.00, perform the following steps:

  1. Upgrade to BMC ProactiveNet version 9.0 or 9.5 with the latest patch.
  2. Upgrade to BMC ProactiveNet version 9.6.00.

BMC ProactiveNet version 8.5.xx

To upgrade to BMC ProactiveNet version 9.6.00, perform the following steps:

  1. Upgrade to BMC ProactiveNet version 9.0 with the latest patch
  2. Upgrade to BMC ProactiveNet version 9.6.00.

BMC ProactiveNet versions 7.7 or 8.0

To upgrade to BMC ProactiveNet version 9.6.00, perform the following steps:

  1. Upgrade to BMC ProactiveNet version 8.5 with the latest patch
  2. Upgrade to BMC ProactiveNet version 9.0 with the latest patch.
  3. Upgrade to BMC ProactiveNet version 9.6.00.

BMC Event and Impact Management versions 7.1, 7.2, 7.3.xx, or 7.4

To upgrade to BMC ProactiveNet version 9.6.00, perform the following steps:

  1. Upgrade from BMC Event and Impact Management versions 7.1, 7.2, 7.3.xx, or 7.4 to BMC ProactiveNet version 8.6.02 with the latest patch.
  2. Upgrade to BMC ProactiveNet version 9.6.00.
