State change actions are stored, maintained, and initiated by the Console. If any monitored object changes state (for example, goes into alarm), the Patrol Agent notifies the Console. The Console then runs actions associated with the new state of the object.
These general actions are not specific to a particular type of problem. Typical state change actions initiated by the Console are as follows:
  • Sounding an alarm to indicate that a problem has been detected
  • Sending an e-mail, fax, or pager message to the responsible person

The following circumstances can signal a state change:

  • Parameter data reaches warning or alarm levels
  • Application discovery forces a new status

For information about dealing with warnings and alarms, see the PATROL Console Getting Started Guide.
