The PATROL Blue Screen KM ensures that the necessary system information is saved and provides those features that perform the following functions automatically:

  • Detect when a system reboot was caused by a Stop error
  • Send an alarm to the console
  • Collect system information that may be useful in determining what caused the Stop error
  • Save system information to a local or remote machine
  • Automatically move system information to a secure location

A Stop error can occur on a server at a remote site in a distributed network environment. When this happens, there may not be a knowledgeable person available to reboot the machine, save the system crash file, and obtain any additional system information.

Information gathered when a system crashes may be useful in determining the cause of the fatal system error so that a technician can diagnose the cause of the crash. In addition, if another Stop error occurs before information about the first crash can be saved, valuable diagnostic information can be lost.

As system crash information can be large, the PATROL Blue Screen KM can be configured to transfer the crash information to a remote server. Such a transfer reduces the storage requirements of the local machine.

The NT_BSK application class allows you to save diagnostic reports to a specified directory when the system crashes. NT_BSK is loaded with a default configuration that works for most installations. However, you may choose to perform one or more of the following optional configuration tasks.
