This topic provides information about integrating with BMC TrueSight Presentation Server to collect and analyze event data.

Notes

  • An integration with BMC TrueSight Presentation Server is an integration with the BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management component that is registered with BMC TrueSight Presentation Server.
  • Unlike other integrations, this integration requires you to register details of the IT Data Analytics server on TrueSight Presentation Server (or TrueSight console).

At a high level, this integration helps you perform the following functions:

  • Get events from BMC TrueSight Presentation Server.
  • Send events to BMC TrueSight Presentation Server while creating notifications.
  • Cross-launch from BMC TrueSight Presentation Server into BMC TrueSight IT Data Analytics (or IT Data Analytics).

To see all the features (or capabilities) supported with this integration, see the compatibility matrix at Integrating.

While creating the notification, you can also search for application names available on TrueSight Presentation Server. With this the logged event is associated with the application name that you searched while creating the notification.

Integration process

To integrate BMC TrueSight Presentation Server with IT Data Analytics, you need to perform the following functions:

  • Register details of the IT Data Analytics server on the TrueSight console.
This configuration is required for performing the various functions available with this integration.
  • Enable BMC Atrium Single Sign-On 9.0 to communicate with IT Data Analytics.

    Notes

    • Unless you use Atrium Single Sign-On for user authentication, you cannot use IT Data Analytics in conjunction with BMC TrueSight Presentation Server.
    • It is important that you configure the same Atrium Single Sign-On server that you are using with BMC TrueSight Presentation Server.

An integration with BMC TrueSight Presentation Server actually involves an integration with BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management registered with BMC TrueSight Presentation Server. When you integrate IT Data Analytics with BMC TrueSight Presentation Server, BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management cells get listed on IT Data Analytics. You can see the cells listed by navigating to Administration > External Configurations, selecting the external configuration (which was automatically created after the integration), and clicking View External Configuration . You can use these cells to achieve the following goals:

  • Get events from BMC TrueSight Operations Management.
  • Send events to BMC TrueSight Operations Management.

The following information provides details about registering details of the IT Data Analytics server on the TrueSight console.

Before you begin

Ensure that BMC TrueSight Presentation Server is up and running in your environment. For more information, see Installing BMC TrueSight Operations Management Open link

Ensure that you have already configured BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management on BMC TrueSight Presentation Server. For more information, see

If you have not already enabled Atrium Single Sign-On 9.0 to communicate with IT Data Analytics, run the enablesso CLI command.

You might want to see some troubleshooting scenarios regarding the integration. For more information, see Troubleshooting common issues.

Cross-launching from the TrueSight console

To enable cross-launch from the TrueSight console into IT Data Analytics, you must first register details of the IT Data Analytics Server with BMC TrueSight Presentation Server (on the TrueSight console). For more information, see the integration process.

You can cross-launch into IT Data Analytics from applications and events available on the TrueSight Console. Before you cross-launch into IT Data Analytics, it is important that you create a data collector for the following items:

  • Each device (host) included in the application from which you want to cross-launch.
  • Each host associated with the event from which you want to cross-launch.

Data collectors are objects that help you collect data records (or events) from the target hosts and make it available for search and analysis. For more information, see Creating data collectors. Creating data collectors beforehand ensures that you can search events after you cross-launch from the TrueSight console into IT Data Analytics.

Where to go from here

Create data collectors to start collection of event data from BMC TrueSight Presentation Server. For more information, see Monitor using external configuration data collector.

Create notifications on the event data collected and subsequently log events on BMC TrueSight Presentation Server. For more information, see Creating notifications.
