This section provides answers to frequently asked questions (FAQs) about the IT Data Analytics free trial product:

Are there any limitations on using the free trial product?

There is no limit on the amount of data you can index by using the product. The free trial product comes with a license of 30 days. When you install the product, a default license gets installed which is valid for 30 days from the date of installation. To continue using the product after 30 days, contact BMC Support or your BMC Account Manager. What is included in the free trial product?

The free trial product comes with the same features that are available with the licensed version 1.1.00 of the product. It can be used in both single-server environments as well as multiple-server environments. However BMC recommends you to use it in a single-server environment by performing a typical installation of the product to avoid complexity and quickly get started with the product.

How do I sign up for the free trial product?

You can sign up for the trial by navigating to the IT Data Analytics product page at www.bmc.com.

After you sign up for the product, you receive links from where you can download the product and a quick start guide.

On which operating systems can I use this product?

You can download and install the product on both Windows and Linux operating systems.

After you download and unzip the installation files, you can access the setup (for Windows) or setup.bin (for Linux) file in the Disk1 directory. Depending on your operating system, you can run these executable files to start the product installation.

Recommendation

BMC recommends you to perform a typical installation of the product to avoid performing complex configurations.

The quick start guide can guide you through the installation process. This guide contains information that helps you understand the basic concepts of the product, the downloading and installation process, and information about example content packs that are bundled with the product.

Do I need to prepare my environment for downloading and installing the product?

You need to prepare for the product installation in the following way:

  • You require approximately 500 MB of free space to download one of the installation files.
  • You need to ensure that the default ports are not in use. Primarily, you require the port 9797 for accessing the product console. For more information, see Communication ports and protocols.

Recommendation

The single-server on which you want to install the product is recommended to use the following hardware configurations:

  • 2 CPU cores
  • 4 GB RAM
  • 225 GB (for installing the product + indexing 20 GB data per day with a default retention period of 7 days)
    Note: The disk space might vary depending on the size of your environment and the size of your log files.
