Creating and importing a Nessus scan file


This topic demonstrates one method for generating a Nessus scan file.

  1. From the home page, select New Scan.

  2. From the Scan Library, select an existing template.

  3. Enter the details for the scan, including its targets. Be sure to enter all required details on sub-nodes such as Schedule and Email Notifications. Also provide information for DISCOVERY AND ASSESSMENT, if necessary.

  4. On the REPORT node, make sure you select Designate hosts by their DNS name (under Output).

  5. On the Credentials tab, enter authentication details, if needed, and save the scan.
    You can also enter details for Compliance and Plugins windows or accept their default values.

  6. On the Scan page, click the Launch icon.

    Here you can see that a scan is in progress.

  7. When the scan is complete, click the scan name. The details page opens.

  8. Select Export > Nessus to download the scan file.

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
