The representation of the data structure in the data source. The model describes data objects, structure, grouping, relationships, and security. After the model is created, it is published to the reports server as a package that is used to create and run reports.

BMC Capacity Optimization

A representation of the performance characteristics of a computer system during a discrete time period. A model of a computer system contains the following information:

• The resources available in the environment (CPUs, disks, and so on)
• The performance characteristics of various resources (CPU performance ratings in terms of number of processors and SPECmarks or MIPS, disk performance ratings in terms of seek time, rotation time, and transfer rates)
• The workloads present on the system and their characteristics (load in terms of transaction volume and number of users, processor time and I/O counts by devices required for each transaction, CPU priority, and so on)
