After you install Infrastructure Management product components, there might be circumstances where you need to change the host name of the computer on which the Infrastructure Management Server is installed.

You might need to change the host name for some of the following reasons:

  • You need to move the Infrastructure Management Server to a different computer due to a hardware failure, or you need to run the Infrastructure Management Server on a computer with more capacity.
  • You are upgrading Infrastructure Management in phases, and you might want to copy Infrastructure Management to a new server and then upgrade it on the new server while you continue to run it on the existing server.
  • You configure disaster recovery after installation of the Infrastructure Management Server with two servers in the same domain and you need to set the host alias on the secondary server.

To change the host name

  1. On the computer that hosts the Infrastructure Management Server, stop the Infrastructure Management Server process.
  2. Open a command line and run one of the following commands, depending on what you want to change:
    pw system change hostname <newHostName>
  3. Restart the Infrastructure Management Server process.
The configuration files are updated with the new host name that you specified.

Note

You cannot use this command to change the domain of the Infrastructure Management server.
