    Before you start using the TrueSight Capacity Optimization product, familiarize yourself with the user interface by reviewing the following information in this topic: :

    Before you begin 

    Accessing the TrueSight Capacity Optimization console

    1. From your web browser, type http://<hostName or IPAddress>/console/.

      hostName or IPAddress is the host name or IP address of the computer where TrueSight Capacity Optimization is installed.
    2. Type your user name and password, and click Login.

    Using the navigation panel

    The navigation panel displays the sections of the console that the user is allowed to access, depending on user roles and privileges.

    Note

    The Administration tab is only visible to users with the administrator role. For more information about the Administration section, see Administering.

    After you click a tab, its contents are displayed in a tree structure in the navigation panel.

    In the Navigation pane, if you click a node under a tab, and then switch to another tab, the node that you accessed first is bookmarked.This feature allows you to quickly move between nodes belonging to different tabs.

    To reset the navigation to the original status, click BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization in the upper left corner of the console.

    Using the console

    A majority of the tasks are performed in the console. At the top of the console, the Breadcrumb bar displays information about the current session. It keeps track of the user's location in the console; each part of the breadcrumb trail provides a link back to a parent page in the hierarchical structure. The Description section on the right presents the main properties of the object selected in the navigation panel. Depending on the selected object, different tools and links are shown in the Tools and Links bar.

    The top-right corner of the TrueSight Capacity Optimization console displays the user name that is logged on to the application and contains the following links:

    • Home: Returns the user to the Welcome page
    • Report Cart: Keeps track of all the analyses and models currently selected by the user, which can be added into a new standard report.
    • About: Displays the version, copyright, and other legal information
    • Logout: Allows the user to log out of the application
    • Help: Enables the user to access the online Help for the application

      Tip

      To view context sensitive help for the section of the screen that you are viewing, click Help from the top of the console. Click to view the home page of the product documentation.

    • Search: Allows the user to search for systems and business drivers in TrueSight Capacity Optimization. See the Searching for entities and metrics section for more information.

    Diagnostic Alert Summary

    The Welcome page displays a notification area that lists the failures, warnings, and errors.

    The following list describes the various elements and their use:

    • Click to close any of the diagnostic alerts.
    • Click See details to view the Diagnostic alerts page. A filter is applied to the Error Code column based on the section from which you click the link. For example, if you click See details from the Errors section, the ERR filter is applied.
    • Click individual alerts to filter the Diagnostics alerts table for displaying a single alert only.

    Notification

    A notification icon alerts you to diagnostics messages, user activity status and so on, and is displayed on the top right of the screen at all times. The number of alerts are also denoted. Click the icon to display the notification pop-up list. The following image is an example of the pop-up list.

    The following list describes the various elements and their use:

    • Icon and count: The count represents the number of Diagnostic alerts. The icon represents the severity of the most severe Diagnostic alert in the list.
      For example, Failure  is the highest severity compared, Error is comparatively lower, and Warning is the least severe.
    • Diagnostic Alerts: The name of the component that is causing the alert is displayed before the alert. Click individual alerts to open the specific configuration page for troubleshooting.
    • Click Show diagnostics alerts pages to view the complete list of diagnostics alerts.
    • Completed: The list of activities that are completed along with the status is displayed.
    • In progress: The list of activities that are in progress along with the status is displayed.
    • Click Show user activity status to view details for these user-relevant activities.

    Recent bookmarks

    The Welcome page of the Home tab displays saved bookmarks under Recent bookmarks. The bookmarks are grouped as Private bookmarks and Public bookmarks. Private bookmarks are based on user login. Public bookmarks are visible to all users. A maximum of 10 bookmarks are displayed for each group, in a descending order of when they were accessed, with the most recently accessed bookmark listed on top.

    Note

    If you have not saved any bookmarks, the Recent bookmarks list is not displayed.

    Description section

    Tip

    TrueSight Capacity Optimization objects are identified by a unique ID, which you can see by placing the cursor over the object's icon.

    By default, only a subset of all available properties is shown on the page.To display all the properties, click the Show/hide details control to expand the box.

    Command buttons such as Edit, Delete, and so on are used to perform some basic actions. Navigation links such as Systems, Business Drivers, and so on direct you to different sections.

    Using the user profile page

    To access your user profile page, click Home in the top bar of the console, and in the Navigation panel, select My profile.

    You can use the profile page to change your password, edit your preferences, and view your user roles and access groups.
