Deprecated features and components in 10.7.01

Support for the following features or components was deprecated in this release of the TrueSight Capacity Optimization product.

Deprecated support for adding custom views in the TrueSight Capacity Optimization console

In TrueSight Capacity Optimization 10.7.01, the ability to add custom views in the TrueSight Capacity Optimization console is deprecated. Beginning in version 10.7.00, you can create custom views in the TrueSight console that provides a better and simplified workflow for custom-view creation. The TrueSight console provides a modern and interactive UI, and is easily accessible from a mobile device.

In addition to creating all new views in the TrueSight console, BMC recommends that you re-create all existing views in the TrueSight console after you upgrade to version 10.7.01. For more details, see Re-creating a custom view.

Deprecated support for accessing views in the TrueSight Capacity Optimization console

In TrueSight Capacity Optimization 10.7.01, the ability to access out-of-the-box and custom views in the TrueSight Capacity Optimization console is deprecated. As part of the Capacity views transformation enhancement in version 10.7.00, the TrueSight console became the primary user interface for working with capacity views. For a quick overview of this transformation, see Changes to accessing and using capacity views.

In version 10.7.00, some of the out-of-the-box views were migrated to the TrueSight console. The remaining out-of-the-box views (currently available in the Capacity Optimization console) will be migrated to the TrueSight console in a later release and support for accessing views in the Capacity Optimization console will be dropped. Although you can still access views in the Capacity Optimization console, in version 10.7.01, BMC recommends that you use the TrueSight console to access the migrated out-of-the-box views and for adding custom views.

For more information, see Out-of-the-box capacity views and Deprecated support for adding custom views in the TrueSight Capacity Optimization console.

Deprecated the Visual Map Editor and the Visual Map portlet

The Visual Map Editor and the Visual Map portlet are deprecated in TrueSight Capacity Optimization 10.7.01. You are encouraged to use the new, easy-to-configure Visual map template in the TrueSight console to draw interactive maps. With this new template, you can easily create and modify a visual map and preview the output. For more information, see Configuring the Visual map template.

Dropped features and components in 10.7.00

Support for the following features or components was dropped in this or an earlier release of the TrueSight Capacity Optimization product.

Dropped platform support for Application Server and ETL Engine Server on Solaris

From TrueSight Capacity Optimization 10.7, support for Application Server and ETL Engine Server on Oracle Solaris is not available. You are encouraged to use other supported operating systems. If you prefer Oracle, you can choose Oracle Linux. In version 10.5, Solaris support was deprecated for lack of adequate user adoption of the operating system.

For more information about the supported platforms, see Software requirements

Dropped support for Motif-based user interfaces

From TrueSight Capacity Optimization 10.7, all Motif-based user interfaces are dropped from the Linux Gateway Server. These include the Investigate, Analyze, and Predict user interfaces. The user interfaces were deprecated in version 10.5. Support for /usr/adm/best1_default/bgs/scripts/best1 script has also been dropped in version 10.7.

You are encouraged to use Windows-based user interfaces for Investigate, Analyze (build workloads) and Predict (build models). You may continue to use Linux for the Gateway Server component for back-end processing (Manager Runs). Use the Gateway Manager from the TrueSight Capacity Optimization console to manage the Gateway Server manager runs. For more information, see Managing and maintaining Gateway Servers.

Use the Gateway Manager to verify that the Gateway Server is installed and configured correctly. For more details, see Verifying the status and configuration details of a Gateway Server. To modify the existing manager runs after you upgrade from earlier version, it is recommended to migrate manager runs. For more details, see Migrating Manager runs.

Dropped integration via vCenter Proxy Agents

In TrueSight Capacity Optimization 10.7, vCenter Proxy Agents are not available. The agent was deprecated in version 10.0 and dropped in version 10.3 because the connector to vCenter (VMware vCenter) provided a better option to integrate with vCenter.

Support for integration of VIS files related to vSphere technology collected from vCenter Proxy Agent component was left in version 10.3 for compatibility reasons. This support was dropped in TrueSight Capacity Optimization version 10.5 (see TrueSight Gateway Server ETL module).

Dropped integration with Atrium CMDB - Service Context

In TrueSight Capacity Optimization 10.7, support for the Atrium Service Context functionality is dropped. The functionality was deprecated in TrueSight Capacity Optimization version 10.5.

Dropped integration with NetApp Data Fabric Manager and NetApp Storage view

Dropped integration with connector PATROL Agent log

In TrueSight Capacity Optimization 10.7, the connector for PATROL Agent logs is not available. The connector was deprecated in version 10.0 and dropped in version 10.5. With TrueSight Capacity Optimization version 10.5, a new connector was made available to integrate with TrueSight Operations Management based on new Data Integration REST APIs. This new connector is supported by TrueSight Operations Management version 10.1 or later. You are encouraged to upgrade to TrueSight Operations Management version 10.1 or later to use this new connector. For more information, see BMC - TrueSight Operations Management 10.1/10.5 extractor.

In TrueSight Capacity Optimization 10.7, the Advanced Reports templates for Storage are not supported. The templates were deprecated in version 10.5 as the Sentry Software Integration for TrueSight Capacity Opitmization add-on (version 10.5) provided better Basic Report templates. The templates leverage new reporting capabilities introduced in version 10.5. Ensure that your TrueSight Capacity Optimization license includes the Sentry add-on.

Integration with some OS native tools is dropped

In TrueSight Capacity Optimization 10.7, the following connectors for OS native tools for Solaris are not available.

    • System Activity Report (SAR) log parser
    • Solaris Zone Extended Accounting parser

The connectors were deprecated in TrueSight Capacity Optimization version 10.0, and then dropped in version 10.3. This is because better data collection options became available in TrueSight Capacity Optimization and in TrueSight Operations Management data collection.

Dropped support for the Grouping Object construct

In TrueSight Capacity Optimization 10.7, the Grouping Object construct remains dropped. The construct was deprecated in TrueSight Capacity Optimization 10.0, and then dropped in version 10.3.

    Dropped support for Tabular reports

In TrueSight Capacity Optimization 10.7, the Tabular Report template type is not supported. The template type was deprecated in TrueSight Capacity Optimization version 10.5 because other options yielded the same results. The options include, custom Advanced Report templates (BIRT format), and a Basic Report that includes  tabular Enterprise Reporting analysis.

Dropped support for Internet Explorer version 9

In TrueSight Capacity Optimization version 10.7, Internet Explorer 9 is not supported (Software requirements). Support for Internet Explorer version 9 was deprecated in TrueSight Capacity Optimization 10.5, in favor of newer versions of the browser. The other reason for deprecation was that TrueSight Console does not support Internet Explorer 9.

Integration with TrueSight Capacity Optimization Agents requires Gateway Server 10.7

From TrueSight Capacity Optimization 10.7, Gateway Server 10.7 is required to integrate the data collected by TrueSight Capacity Optimization Agents with the TrueSight Capacity Optimization Database. Earlier versions of the TrueSight Capacity Optimization Agents continue to be supported (Gateway Server). For more information, see Architecture.

Ability to access offline help is dropped

In TrueSight Capacity Optimization 10.7, offline help is not available. If you cannot access product documentation over the Internet, you can download PDF help from PDFs and videos.

Deprecated features and components in 10.7.00

Support for the following features and components was deprecated in this or an earlier release of the TrueSight Capacity Optimization product.

Deprecated support for Perceiver user interface

In TrueSight Capacity Optimization 10.7, the Perceiver user interface remains deprecated. The Perceiver user interface was deprecated in version 10.0 after all major Perceiver capabilities were integrated with the TrueSight Capacity Optimization console. For more information, see Architecture.

General Manager and Virtualization Planner sections of the Perceiver user interface were dropped in version 10.0 as the related functionalities were integrated with the TrueSight Capacity Optimization console. As a result, if you install the Perceiver user interface for the first time with TrueSight Capacity Optimization 10.x, the sections are not installed.

In contrast, if you upgrade from a version earlier than 10.0, the General Manager and Virtualization Planner sections remain visible, though the sections are no longer supported.

Deprecated support for Visualizer user interface

In TrueSight Capacity Optimization 10.7, the Visualizer user interface remains deprecated. The interface was deprecated in 10.0 after all major Visualizer capabilities were integrated with the TrueSight Capacity Optimization console.

    For more information, see Architecture.

Also see changes to Motif-based user interface for Visualizer.

Deprecated support for Visualizer database and related components

In TrueSight Capacity Optimization 10.7, the Visualizer Database and its related components, Automator and MPopulate (for UNIX platforms), and the CDB-CDB extractor remain deprecated.

The above components were deprecated in version 10.0. This is because integration via VIS files became the recommended approach for integrating the data that is collected by TrueSight Capacity Optimization Agents with TrueSight Capacity Optimization Database. For more information, see Architecture.

The renamed TrueSight Capacity Optimization CDB-CDB extractor was also deprecated in TrueSight Capacity Optimization version 10.0.

Deprecated integration via Windows Proxy Agents

In TrueSight Capacity Optimization 10.7, the Windows Proxy Agent component remains deprecated. The agent was deprecated in version 10.5 because the connector from Moviri add-on (see Moviri ETL modules), provided a more flexible and scalable option for Windows technologies to integrated with  Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM). You are encouraged to adopt the SCOM connector for remotely collecting data for Windows technologies. You must continue to use Windows agents to collect workloads and process data (virtual node) from local systems where they are installed.

Note that an earlier version of the connector for Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) that was based on SCOM Operational Database, was deprecated in version 9.5 and then dropped in version 10.0. The recommended SCOM connector is instead based on SCOM Data Warehouse, which is the Microsoft-recommended integration point.

    Deprecated support for Consolidation Models

In TrueSight Capacity Optimization 10.7, the Consolidation Models remain deprecated. The models were deprecated in version 10.5 because better support for consolidation/virtualization scenarios is provided by the functionalities of the Virtual Planner (see Virtual Planner). You are encouraged to start using Virtual Planner instead of Consolidation Models.

Deprecated support for Atrium Discovery and Dependency Mapping connector

In TrueSight Capacity Optimization 10.7, the ETL module for Atrium Discovery and Dependency Mapping (ADDM) is deprecated as a direct data source for TrueSight Capacity Optimization (CSV-file-based integration is documented here). The recommended integration approach for Discovery data is to populate Atrium CMDB, and then use the ETL module for Atrium CMDB.

Deprecated support for creation of new custom portlet via Integration Studio

In TrueSight Capacity Optimization 10.7, creation of new custom portlet via Capacity Optimization Integration Studio is deprecated. Creation of new views in the TrueSight Capacity Optimization console is supported but not recommended. The ability to create custom views is now available from the TrueSight console, which is hosted on the TrueSight Presentation Server. You are encouraged to start using the TrueSight console for greatly improved workflow and usability.

Custom views that were created in TrueSight Capacity Optimization console will continue to run after upgrading to TrueSight Capacity Optimization 10.7. You are encouraged to migrate them to the TrueSight console. Also, some of the out-of-the-box best-practice views are now migrated to the TrueSight console.

For more information, see Changes to accessing and using capacity views.

    Deprecated portlets

The following portlets are deprecated in TrueSight Capacity Optimization 10.7. These portlets will be available for use.
