The Microsoft Windows Automated Installation Kit (AIK), more recently renamed as the Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit (ADK), enables BMC Server Automation to create WinPE images that serve as a preboot environment during provisioning of Windows packages.This topic includes the following sections:
If you are not creating Windows boot images, skip this section.
BMC recommends installing AIK or ADK on the same server with the PXE server, although this is not mandatory.
The RSCD agent must be running on the TFTP server while you are generating boot images with the BMC Server Automation image generator. However, during AIK or ADK installation, PXE server and TFTP server availability is not required.
Install the kit that is appropriate for your versions of WinPE and operating system, according to the instructions provided by Microsoft.
|Kit version||WinPE version||OS compatibility|
|WinPE 5.1||Supports newer Windows Server versions, such as Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2012 (and various others).|
|Windows Automated Installation Kit (AIK) version 2.1||WinPE 2.x||Supports older Windows Server versions, such as Windows Server 2003 (and various others).|
When specifying an installation path for the AIK, specify a path name that does not contain spaces. For example, use C:\WAIK.This requirement is not relevant for the ADK — the installation path for the ADK may contain spaces.
