Snapshot Jobs make a record of one or more server configurations at a point in time. You can base Snapshot Job on components or server objects. To create a Snapshot Job, see the following sections:
Ensure that you have enough space on the application server and on the file system for the temporary storage of .snp and .bnp files, which are created during the execution of the Snapshot Job and are automatically deleted after the job has completed. For more information, see Resource usage of Snapshot, Audit, and Compliance Jobs and Snapshot storage.
Note
When choosing the object or component that you want to snapshot, take into account the size of the object and focus on the minimum object scope. For example, do not choose an entire file system, as the typical size of a file system can cause the Snapshot Job to fail.
Open the Jobs folder and select a job folder. Right-click and select New > Snapshot Job.
Note
In BMC Server Automation 8.7 or later, this option is useful, for example, if you do not yet have existing components that you want to use in your Snapshot Job. You can then set the Snapshot Job to perform automatic component discovery at the beginning of job execution (for more details, see the description of the Run auto-discovery setting on the General panel).
