BMC ProactiveNet Reporting universe provides you with an interface to run queries against the BMC ProactiveNet Report Engine database to create reports and perform data analysis. A universe typically contains the following components:
Class: A class is a container of objects. A class is the equivalent of a folder in the Windows environment. You create classes to house objects that have a common purpose in the universe.
Objects: A named component that maps data or a derivation of data in database. There are three types of objects: Dimension Objects, Detail Objects, and Measure Objects.
Conditions: Pre-defined statements that are used to filter the results of a query.
The measures and dimensions defined in the universe contain the mappings to the specific database tables and columns. When these measures and dimensions are used in a report, the query (with the required tables and joins) is automatically run based on these joins, and the results are returned. With these dimensions, measures, and conditions, you can create and modify reports according to your needs. The universe also contains hierarchies that allow you to drill through the results of a query and analyze the information as required.
