Working with Oracle Homes

BMC Database Automation supports the discovery and approval of existing Oracle Homes that do not have databases running out of them.

To set up BMC Database Automation to discover Oracle Homes, see Enabling-discovery-of-Oracle-Homes.

After approval, the Oracle Homes appear under Applications as a Generic Applications icon.

After a home without a database is used for the first time, the Home icon no longer appears in the Context Frame.

Actions and Oracle Homes

Oracle Homes without databases are represented in BMC Database Automation as generic applications. Actions can be run on Oracle Homes by using the Applications Scope. See Running-Actions.

Inline patching and Oracle Homes

Inline patching is supported. See Applying-patches-inline-during-provisioning.

Note

To create an Oracle Home as part of the database provisioning operation, see the preferred section: Creating-a-single-instance-Oracle-database-on-Linux-and-UNIX or Adding-a-database-to-an-Oracle-cluster.

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
