A server that provides software applications with services such as security, data services, transaction support, load balancing, and management of large distributed systems. The term is often used for web servers that support the Java Platform, Enterprise Edition, however its use is not restricted to Java.
A type of agent that is installed on the application server where it monitors production applications and collects statistical information about the application server and host computer. Each BMC Application Diagnostics Agent is paired with a BMC Application Diagnostics Portal and a BMC Application Diagnostics Collector.
This component services one or more BMC Application Diagnostics Agents. Data captured by the BMC Application Diagnostics Agents, along with metrics data about the application server and host computer, is sent to the BMC Application Diagnostics Collector and stored in a MySQL database. Each BMC Application Diagnostics Collector can manage up to 200 BMC Application Diagnostics Agents.
This component manages the BMC Application Diagnostics Collectors and Agents, and communicates with its managed Collectors to gather relevant data to be displayed in the BMC Application Performance Management Console.
A server that is made up of the BMC Application Diagnostics Collector and BMC Application Diagnostics Portal. They can be installed either together on the same host computer, or separately on different computers.

A keep-alive signal that is sent at predefined intervals from BMC Application Diagnostics Agents and BMC Application Diagnostics Collectors to maintain connection with the BMC Application Diagnostics Portal.
An editable text file that enables you to define (configure) how the BMC Application Diagnostics Agents and BMC Application Diagnostics Collectors behave and operate.
This file defines what should be monitored with regards to the different Java and .NET technologies in the monitored applications.
