You add components to the BMC Application Management Console to enable the functions of you APM system:

  • To enable access to captured and analyzed traffic data, you must define at least one instance of a Real User Analyzer component.
  • To enable Performance Analysis functions, you must add at least one instance of the Performance Analytics Engine component.
  • To enable drill-down to a Real User Collector, you must add the component.

Alternatively, instead of connecting Analyzer and Collector components, you can add a BMC TrueSight End User Monitor 4200 Series component. For information about this component, see BMC TrueSight End User Monitor 4200 Series overview.

Before you begin

If you want to use the DNS hostname of your component instances (rather than the IP address), you must set DNS parameters on the Console before adding components to it.

To add or edit a component instance to the Console

Example

The IP address of the component instance is 10.160.1.63 or fd4f:9030:fbd4:1:250:56ff:fe8f:4a9a, the Security user name is ITSec, and the password is mypa$$w0rd.

  1. On the System Deployment menu of the Console, click Components.
The list of all components connected to the Console opens.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • On the Action menu, click Add Component.
    • On the configuration menu for a component, select Edit component.
  3. Type IP address of the component or the DNS name, for example 10.160.1.63 (IPv4) or fd4f:9030:fbd4:1:250:56ff:fe8f:4a9a ( IPv6 Open link ).
  4. Accept the default value of 443 in Port.
  5. In the Component Group box, enter the name of the sub-group, to which you want to include the component.
When you select this group for upgrade, the system upgrades all components that it contains. For more information, read Installing the updates.
  6. Type the user name and password for the Security account. The system uses this account for API calls between the Console and the Analyzer.
  7. Click Save.

Result

The instance is now added to the Components page of the Console. See the explanation of possible statuses in a table below.

Component statuses

StatusDescription
OKThe connection is established.
ERROR
  • The component was not added correctly
  • The component is down
  • There is a connection error between Console and the component
UNKNOWNThe Console is trying to establish a connection to the component.

After connecting the components to each other and adding them to the Console, the system can start pulling traffic data into the configured Watchpoints.

Real User Analyzer components appear on the Home page of the Console so that you can quickly drill down into any of them.

To delete a component from the Console

  1. On the System Deployment menu of the Console, click Components.
  2. On the configuration menu for the component, select Delete component.
The component is disconnected from the Console. To connect it to the Console, see Adding or removing a component from the Console.
